It's the Best Standalone DJ Media Player Ever!
I've been a professional DJ for more than 20 years and I have never seen such a feature-rich, well thought out, nice looking all-in-one unit for such a great price. I used to shy away from Denon and only buy Pioneer, but this thing is so good it has converted me. I've owned super expensive Pioneer DJ stuff like CDJs and XDJs I paid WAY more for and honestly I prefer this unit to everything else I've used. Why? There are a whole bunch of reasons. First of all, it looks amazing! The white color with black highlights makes it look like it's straight out of Star Wars. Second, the built-in speakers sound great and make the unit immediately usable for practice anywhere. They aren't gimmicky and are a genuinely useful addition that makes the unit way more fun because it's much easier to set up anywhere. DJ on the kitchen counter, in the RV or bus, on a boat or in tight spaces where setting up speakers just isn't practical. They also make having dedicated DJ booth monitors unnecessary in all but the loudest gigs and can be a lifesaver when the DJ booth monitors are janky, lack independent volume control or are simply nonexistent at the gig. Third, you can stream from almost every music streaming service other than Spotify and can even use your own music library on Apple Music or Dropbox and it saves analysis info, cue points and more from streamed tracks on your USB drives or SD card. Fourth, you can play from 2 USB drives, an SD card, a Laptop running Serato or Virtual DJ, an aux RCA input or a bluetooth device in addition to all the streaming services. Fifth, you can stream wirelessly to bluetooth speakers (though there is latency). Sixth, you can record internally to the unit and it captures the mic and aux inputs (but not when a streaming service is your source). Seventh, it has built-in DMX, Philips Hue and Nanoleaf lighting control. Eighth, it has an insane number of effects that all sound great. Ninth, it has a sample player you can load custom samples onto and trigger from the pads. Tenth, it's lightweight at only 12 pounds, which is very impressive for a 4-deck standalone unit. Eleventh, it has a great high-res touchscreen that makes searching for songs easy and displays tons of useful info on it. Twelfth, the jog wheels feel smoother and better than most CDJs and don't make noise when you scratch. I could go on, but you get the point. The only real downsides are not having standalone mixer functionality and being just a bit too big to fit in a checked bag on an airplane. But just get a small line mixer or battle style mixer and plug it into the aux if you need more inputs and get a dedicated flight case if you need to fly with it. The reality here is that this unit has more functionality and features than an XDJ-AZ for 1/3 the price and less than half the weight. It doesn't feel quite the same to use as Pioneer units because the pads require a bit more pressure, the knobs are not as big and the crossfader can't be adjusted or replaced. But if you're not a wiki-wiki crab scratch DJ hammering on all your faders all the time it really doesn't matter. Yes, it's plastic but that's one reason why it's lightweight. There is nothing about it that feels flimsy. It's a really pro piece of gear despite costing far less than most other options. I'm just so happy with mine! It's everything I've ever wanted in a standalone unit and more. I'm mixing music every day again, discovering so much new music with the streaming features and coming up with new performance techniques and routines I could have never created on my Pioneer gear. It's truly a pure joy to use. Buy with confidence and definitely get the white version!

DDJ 1000 VS SC LIVE 4
if your debating between the sc live 4 and the ddj 1000, dont hesitate ,i bought the sc live 4, i know what your thinking right now but dont hesitate, get the sc live 4. its amazing, very simular to pioneer too. took me like 30 mins to get used too then i felt at home, its legit everything in the ddj 1000 but standalone and with speakers, the speakers get pretty loud and the resonate through the system, NOT rattle you can feel the bass in the dj from them they are very nice. i still hooked it up to some 8 inch studio monitors, which are of course much better but i like the speakers since i can just take my dj to the kitchen or wherever and dj without needing anythting but the DJ since its standalone. engine DJ supports rekordbox files so its not hard to transition over and stuff. also its alot smarter, like alot alot smarter, built in lighting control, it can analyze tracks, it can control nanoleaf and philips hue, streaming services and more, all for 1300, such a good deal. and get it on amazon, worst case just return it if you dont like it lol. but im sure you wont want to return it once you see all the benefits and cool features!

Great set of decks
This is a great set of decks. They were my first and I've absolutely loved then. The fact that I can connect to Wi-Fi and okay off of my streaming services was great before I started using record box and it's still great for when I get requests.

Great features but some issues
Off the bat, this is a great feature set for a DJ controller. The feature set for the money is unbeatable. On top of that, you can be completely standalone and lose the computer.... under one condition - If the touchscreen worked reliably. Out of the box, my unit booted up and downloaded the latest enginedj update and firmware. That was great experience. Connect it to wifi and off ya go! After the update, I connected my Tidal account and ran a session for about 2hrs. Absolutely no issues. Next I wanted to connect to desktop dj software, as the benefit to a laptop connection is eye level. Hanging your head over that screen after a while is bad ergonomically. I tried a couple of apps - Djay, Virtual DJ, Serato, and of course Engine DJ. Played with them all for a bit, and shutdown normally (button press, touch yes on the touchscreen). After a couple of days, I booted back up, and it seems this is where the problem started. The touchscreen was completely unresponsive. Oh man! I read some posts on reddit that the screen doesn't like cold, or that it's capacitive touch so be sure your're plug is grounded properly, and blah blah blah. I thought, how in the world can a device of this standing be so picky? I'm indoors in a properly wired residence. Not likely. Anyhow, I long pressed the power button to shut it down (because the normal touching yes to shutdown didn't work with a dead screen) and at least I could power it off. I started it back up and eventually, some responsiveness came back, but it wasn't 100%. The knobs work just fine, but the touchscreen goes dead sometimes and unfortunately some options can only be accessed via touch. I've reached out to Denon support who recommended reapplying a firmware update. I did a factory reset, and a firmware install and neither resolved the issue. My ticket is being escalated, but if they don't have an answer in the next few days, I'll be returning this one. Update. Denon support says to either return it to Amazon or submit a warranty claim. That really stinks they don't have a solution for this. It makes me hesitant to try another one. I may go for another brand's controller.
