Review: Not really charcoal, but excellent quality, highly recommended - These charcoal sticks are very much like chalk, but less dustier. They appear to contain a binder which make them a little harder than chalk and much better for drawing with. I don't think they are charcoal (the company calls them charcoal) but when I contacted General's they would not disclose what these sticks were were actually made from. I would say they are chalk with a binder. Overall, very pleased....great for drawing on black paper and adding highlights to graphite drawings

These charcoal sticks are very much like chalk, but less dustier. They appear to contain a binder which make them a little harder than chalk and much better for drawing with.
