Great diagnostic tool in one compact package
purchased this scanner for a home garage. The device was easy to get registered and updated. It does support 5ghz as well as 2.4ghz wifi which I was happy to see. Once connected to the internet, I registered the device and was able to download the vehicle packages that I needed. The app itself also ran an automatic update. I was a bit concerned initially by the screen size and thought I would have to bust out by reading glasses but the screen is bright and clear, much like a cell phone in landscape mode. The device itself feels rugged and has rubber bumpers on the ends. i'm sure it will survive the inevitable fall to the garage floor. I was able to try the scanner out on a Volvo XC90, Jeep Compass, Subaru Outback and Jeep WJ. The autovin feature automatically identified 3 of the vehicles. The Jeep WJ, which is 20 years old, required that I manually enter my VIN. I was able to run diagnostics on all of the vehicles and see live data from various sensors. One of the main reasons for buying a bidirectional tools was to be able to retract the EPB for rear brake replacements. I checked the online feature lookup on the Xtool website to make sure that feature was available for my year, make , and model. It worked to put both vehicles in and out of brake maintenance mode. I did have a moment of panic when i couldn't get the Subaru out of maintenance mode. The on screen instructions said to press the brake slowly until the pedal is firm . That is correct but you have to do that BEFORE you click the button to exit maintenance mode. I had emailed support on a weekend about it and they got back to me in a few hours. Luckily I figured this out on my own so I didn't have to go any further with support but they seemed willing to help. I did a bit of shopping before settling on an Xtool scanner. I found a lot of other brands either didn't allow you to have multiple cars in the scanner, they required a subscription for updates, or both. This tool doesn't have those limits and as someone that is using the scanner in a home garage, it didn't make sense to buy a scanner that was going require a subscription or licenses. This really checked all the boxes for what I need, I'm glad I chose it.

Great tool and great support
First I want to mention the support. I have bought products (including scan tools) in the past, where there has basically been no support from the company. This company however is different. I have both called and emailed, and my phone call was answered and my emails always responded to in a timely manner. They are always quick to respond and provide assistance. Next is the tool itself. It is a great tool for the price! It has more functions than most any other tool I can find in this price range. It is very functional and can diagnose almost any vehicle from 1996 on. I have used it on a variety of vehicles so far and it has worked great each time. I have some bluetooth scan tools that you use your phone to access through an app, and the nice thing about this tool is you have a large screen that is easier to see and read, and the hard-wired connection is much faster than bluetooth. The tool itself is also a windows-based tablet, so you can do a lot of other things with it as well. The first time I tried the tool on a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. The check engine light was on and I needed to figure out what was wrong and fix it so it would pass inspection. The tool connected quickly and was able to identify the vehicle right away. As soon as it was connected I was able to read the trouble code, then I was able to view the live data and could see that the sensor that was triggering the check engine light was not responding. A new sensor was installed and then I used the tool to clear the check engine light. Problem solved! The tool was really helpful in diagnosing the issue, confirming the problem, and clearing the codes. I have also used it on a few other vehicles with similar success. It is a nice tool and I would recommend it for anyone from a new DIY'er to more experienced wrenchers. One thing to keep in mind--if you will not be using the tool for a while (say more than a day or so), make sure you plug it in and/or turn the power off so the battery is ready to go next time you need it.

Great Addition to my Toobox (IP508S OBD2 Scanner)
I have been using this scanner for the past two months and find it to be an extremely valuable addition to my toolbox. I am not a professional mechanic but I do all of my own repairs and take care of relatives and friends vehicles as well. I own several OBD scanners, including some from Xtools and others manufacturers, but I find this IP508S OBD2 Scanner to be, hands-down, the easiest to use and the very best so far. In my opinion, it is a great value for the price and it has paid for itself multiple times over. Some scanners are vehicle specific but this one works on all newer makes and models. For example, using it on my Mercedes it has tests and functions that aren't there on another scanner (which is dedicated strictly to Mercedes). It is simply plug and play when switching between vehicles and with the automatic software update I know it's always current. I've used it on Mercedes, Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Chevy and others and it has worked flawlessly. Overall operation is easy to learn and similar to using an Android phone or tablet. In addition to Diagnostics, it has built in WiFi (internet browser), easy to save screenshots (saving codes for later reference), storage space, plus you can view and record live data with playback capabilities. The diagnostics function is solid and when troubleshooting a problem with an error code it will even do an Internet search on the code and direct you to relevant sites for assistance. I am 100% sold on this scanner and like I said, it's more than paid for itself by saving me troubleshooting time and letting me do my own repairs. It's small enough that when I travel away from home by car or truck I will be sure to have it with me, just it case of a problem. If a problem or warning light pops ups, it'll only take a minute to scan for the trouble code and decide the best course of action. Sometimes a simple reset of a code or light can be enough to get you going again. I highly recommend this scanner and plan on purchasing a second one as a gift for my son.
