The love between Ben & his labrador Inca is shared intimately with the reader. If you are a labrador owner, I have 2, you'll understand perfectly the special relationship he has with his dogs. More people like Ben will make this world a better place. Long may Labradors remain our favourite dogs.

We have a 10 month old Black Lab, so I bought this book for my Husband, who is enjoying it immensely It is a really great read for anyone who owns a Lab. He keeps reading chunks of it out loud and so we are having great fun comparing notes. Great, easy and very interesting read. I love the way he says Labrador's are not pet's they are companions and certainly should be part of the family. Ben Fogle is certainly an accomplished writer. Thoroughly recommend. 10 stars if possible. I also bought Ben's book on the history of the Land Rover and he enjoyed that immensely also. I am so pleased I purchased this book.

A wonderful book full of the known history of this wonderful breed of dog. Added into it the journey Ben took with his beautiful fluffball 'Inca' which I related to in so many ways with my own flufball 'Spooky'. On the remote chance of Ben ever reading this review 'thank you mate, very informative and very moving with regard to your life with Inca, I relate so much to it and it made me both laugh and cry. If your a Lab lover you will enjoy this book.

I bought this book for my Son in Law for Christmas so he will be thrilled with it. He loves his Labrador and Ben Fogle is a favourite too so it will be a winner. Ben was signing copies of this book in our town last week and that was a huge success, such a wonderful man. A great tribute to the most amazing dogs.

This book will appeal to all Labrador owners (there are a lot of us about), potential Labrador owners, past Labrador owners, and maybe a few curious types. Despite the opening with the death of author Ben Fogle's own Labrador, Inca, this is not a book in the vein of Marley and Me. Ben provides something more of an owners handbook, a journey through the history of the Labrador, to the modern uses for the dog, and a personal analysis of owning referring to his own experiences with Inca. And for me it was informative, and interesting. If you don't fit the category of reader above, you would best give it a "pass". The book is not well edited, with some material needlessly repeated, and some sections tackle the "telephone directory" of breed histories. But it does bring something new to the shelf, and if you, like me, have a black Labrador in your family, it is an essential read.

Not read any of Ben Fogle’s work before, but as a new labrador puppy owner myself, I found this book touching, moving, and amazingly educational. Brilliantly written and read by the man himself.
