Has anyone else found it really difficult to open?

Yes, haha! I used to have to get a knife to prise the seal off! But I think it's been improved now. The seal is perforated now, so twist the whole top until the seal separates, then keep twisting and pull upwards and it comes off.

Being "medicated" - does it have a pleasant smell?

I used to swear by Lanacane powder until it disappeared from the market. I would say this is a very good substitute and what smell there is less than Lanancane. As the other respondee has said there really isn't much of a smell at all. Recommended.

Can I use as a deodorant?

Not suitable as a deodorant as it is meant to absorb excess moisture and prevent skin infections and relieve irritations and itching caused by sweating and chafing

Would this be suitable for a dogs ears

I would check first for anything trapped in the ear then get drops for the ears and ointment for any rash
