The stand
Excellent film, very long, but you do enjoy it when it's captivating. When the story is good, you don't want it to end, and because it's in four part, it's just like watching the : Matrix I II III, Terminator I II III, alien, Twillight etc. They are a lot of very good actors, very well played, with a good moral, the good people against the bad. It is an hold film, so the special effect are quiet basic, but it doesn't take away the original story, as S. King is so good at. You won't be desapointed.

An amazing mini-series.
This is probably one of my favourite adaptions of a Stephen King novel, the film/mini-series' monstrous length only reflects the book's equally humongous page count (around 1300 pages). Of course, things have been taken out, but that was unavoidable. Regardless, they add what is necessary and remove what they need to in order to not run on for longer than the mini-series format allows. Plus, I adore the depiction of Randell Flagg who is both charming, sinister and hilarious ('rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub') as he builds his society of miscreants in Los Vegas. The delivery was fast and the discs all work, thus I have no problems with it.

My favourite Stephen King film
Before this film was made, The Stand was (and still is) my favourite Stephen King book. The film didn't disappoint. It captured the characters and the tone of the book perfectly. Benefiting from the longer running time of a TV mini series, it was a good decision not to make a cinema film. The story would never have fitted into two and a half hours! If you haven't seen this, buy it! At time of writing it's only £4 with free delivery, what have you got to lose? You won't regret it!

captivating
I orginally saw "The Stand" in the late 1990's and had always liked it The stand gave actors Gary Sinise(CSI:New York) and Corin Nemec (StarGate) their first real step on the ladder The stand tell of the battle between good and evil A superbug devistates the world and the survivors then start to get visions from mother Abigale (good) and Flagg (evil) they form two groups based at Boulder Colerado and Las vegas you have dead bodies by the bucket load and the scenes inside the CDC are classic the dvd is about 8 hours long and split into four chapters - ideal to watch on a wet weekend I thoroughly recommend it

Great
Had this on VHS years ago and have read the book several times. Good quality DVD. Basically, a virus sweeps the globe ( presumably not just USA but that isn't made completely clear) kills off most of the population. There's a bad man and a good woman. Which side will the survivors choose? And which side will win in the end. The book is good but very few of Stephen King's novels have been made into great films. This one is no exception. I still like the story tho.

Stands the test of time (better than 2020 version)
Bought this to revisit the original The Stand show (split across TV episodes) and was not disappointed. Much better than the new remake. Flag is a much better dark figure and overall much truer to the book.

Somewhat patchy but worth watching
Having, along with millions of others, loved this novel by Stephen King and read it more than once, when I then saw it had been filmed I looked forward to seeing it but was sadly rather disappointed. What should have been a gripping drama just somehow doesn't come across as such in many scenes - from the word go it seems out of kilter - I mean playing the song 'Dont Fear The Reaper' as a soundtrack instead of a chilling atmospheric eerie musical intro over shots of recently deceased military personnel killed by a deadly virus on a bio-weapons base that is about to wipe out most of humanity is just 'so' klutzville corny and unsuitable it's just unbelievable - whoever came up with that one ought to be quietly redirected to become tea boy/girl. In spite of this much of it is ok to almost really quite good occasionally, in spite of a few miscast actors (eg Larry and Fran, the latter of whom was just sadly totally ropey). The scenes in the hospital with Stu (Gary Sinise) are truly chilling - if only the whole four hours could have been of this level of intensity as in the book, this would have been an excellent version. Other parts are also well done such as those involving Nick Andros and Tom Cullen, which were exactly as I had envisaged them, and the best music was the acoustic slide guitar stuff which suits these kind of American big open spaces - but somehow the whole thing lacked an overall cohesive intensity that this story demands - after all this is an end of the world type apocalypse involving good against evil! - and the enormity of this just somehow isn't quite conveyed to say the least. Maybe it's just some of the little things that niggle - I mean would the character Larry really have carried an acoustic guitar 300 miles across the desert to meet the Evil one? What was he planning to do - sing Greensleeves to the Walking Dude? In spite of all this I think this film is worth seeing and have given it 3 stars.

Bastante fidelidad con la historia original. El reparto es bueno, pero se ha quedado algo obsoleta con el paso de los años. El personaje del hombre oscuro no convence...
