The Bluebeards Revenge Alum Block

I have thought quite hard for the best way to describe this. For me the best description is when you look at it you wonder what is the point of it, after you use it you wonder how you ever managed without it. For wet shaving its amazing and gives you feed back on areas that have been wrongly shaved. You will experience some stinging so if you want to perfect your shave, get one use it and you will never want to go without.

Great value alum block. If you have never used before, alum blocks help seal nicks when shaving or can be worked across the skin to tighten the skin after shaving. They are pretty much the same so buy the cheapest you can. Anything over the base price is branding or packaging. Had an Art Of Shaving one from the US with a plastic case previously. Product pretty much identical but a solid case is helpful.

This stuff is like magic. Really stings, but closes up any cuts. If you have any bad cuts, you might want to check on them later on, as it seems to make the blood scab / crystallise and go brown? Still better than bleeding all over your shirt on a Monday morning! It's smaller than I thought it would be, but it gets used really slowly, mine's a couple of months in and still looks the same size / shape. It definitely doesn't get used up at the same rate as soap. Only downside is the plastic box it comes in. It's really fiddly to open / close. I'd prefer if it was a proper tub that has a hinge, or just wasn't advertised as a feature, it's essentially just packaging.

Bought shortly after buying a straight razor and learning how to use it the hard way. Works well at stopping small nics however do not expect miracles if it is a deep cut as it would not work and cause you excess pain. I use it post shave aswell to identify where I have applied too much pressure and to stop the bleed of any small cuts.

Tried a few different blocks by other makers this one by far does a superb job if you are like me and still have little nicks now and then when shaving with a DE Razor,seals the cuts almost instantly and yes it does sting a little.

Well for this review I would like to break the rules and ask amazon what were they thinking when they put the flavour part up for review. Hmmm not to sure it an item that should be consumed. But on another note this dose the job and dose it well.

What you get is a square cut block of alum in a clear pvc plastic box. The box is cheap, it's usually the kind of cheap packaging that gets binned. It's marketed as a case for this product which technically it is...one that is horrible to open and close. The block itself is just that a block. Others seem to have received rough cut blocks but mine was ok. No sharp edges or rough patches, though rounded edges would have been better. It's basically a chunk of crystal so expect to see fracture lines inside. They're usually not a big deal but if one runs all the way through it could end up breaking along that fracture. So all in all this is a middle of the road product. It does its job but with a few tweaks it could do it a whole lot better.

I don’t know how it does it but it just does. Using this block has made shaving rash a thing of the past. Wet the bloc and rub it over your chin and neck and you’ll feel a tingle in the places that, had you not used the bloc, would have become sore as hell later in the day. This also kind of tells you we’re you should perhaps be taking a little more care when dragging that razor over your neck in a sleep hazed stupor in the mornings. I bought a second one for my wife (which earnt me a slap) but when I explained it wasn’t for her chin (as if I would!) but rather might be as useful on legs and armpits it earnt me some good husband credits after she’s used it a couple of times. I would definitely recommend.
