A value for money two on one coupling of the first two studio albums issued by early 70 s TV / Pop sensations The Partridge Family, the first time they ve been released in Europe on CD. Both albums reached the Top 5 s in America and Canada. Includes the International hit single I Think I Love You (No.1 USA and Australia, No.18 in the UK and Top 30 in Germany) which sold over 5 million copies world-wide. Also features the American hit singles I ll Meet You Halfway (No.9) and Doesn t Somebody Want To Be Wanted (No.6) which also topped the charts in Canada and hit No.6 in Australia. Initially conceived as a TV family programme The Partridge Family became a formidable record and merchandise selling outfit in the early 70 s and provided the launch pad for vocalist David Cassidy to became a major world-wide teeny bop superstar. In-depth liner notes and pictures of all relevant singles are a feature of the artwork whilst the whole release has been re-mastered by Tim Turan. David Cassidy will be touring the UK in November and his profile will be the highest it s been for many years so we expect strong press and retail interest in our series of Partridge Family reissues as well as our recent overhaul of David's early 70's releases. C'mon Now And Meet Everybody-Hear 'Em Singing!
A great coupling of the first two Partridge Family albums on one CD. I was happy to get this combination. I guess you could say I got this in memory of David Cassidy, who passed away last month. Although I never had these two albums before except for the first which I belatedly I got second-hand on vinyl from a former co-worker who was downsizing his vinyl collection, these two were, however, to make up for the three 45s I had as a kid-"I Think I Love You"/"Somebody Wants To Love You"; "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted"/"You Are Always On My Mind" and "I'll Meet You Halfway"/"Morning Rider On The Road". The second one of these was the only one I had with a picture sleeve cover which is the very same picture used on the face of this two-for disc. A classic Partridge Family group shot outside the bus in their maroon crushed velvet outfits with their instruments namely Jeremy Gelbwaks holding drum sticks, Suzanne Crough holding the multi-colored tambourine, David Cassidy holding a Fender Stratocaster and Danny Bonaduce holding a Fender Precision bass[That's what the latter two used, respectively, in the pilot episode]. Over the course of these 22 songs[11 per album] they mainly remind us of what's heard on the first season of the show. Keep in mind also that the main voices used on the recordings were the show's stars Shirley Jones and David Cassidy[The former was the real-life stepmother of the latter] while other studio singers were used to replicate the other Partridge kids and the musicians were none other than the Wrecking Crew(Hal Blaine-drums; Joe Osbourne and Max Bennett-bass; Larry Knechtel and Mike Melvion-keyboards and Louie Shelton, Dennis Budimir and Tommy Tedesco on guitars). Songwriting talents go to Tony Romeo["Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquerque"; "I Think I Love You"; "You Are Always On Mind"; "Morning Rider On The Road" and "That'll Be The Day"], Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill["I Really Want To Know You" and "I'm On The Road"]; record producer Wes Farrell and Gerry Goffin["I'll Meet You Halfway"; "I'm Here, You're Here" and "There's No Doubt In My Mind"]; Farrell collaborates with Cassidy on "Lay It On The Line"; Farrell also collaborates with Mike Appel(Bruce Springsteen's first manager) and Jim Cretecos on "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat"; "Somebody Wants To Love You"; "Doesn't Somebody Want To be Wanted" and "Umbrella Man". Another thing worth noting of these first two Partridge Family are the album designs. The former is made up like a photo album and to match the color of their outfits while the latter was made to look like a datebook which is also fascinating because it gives out the cast members' birthdays. Two of them match the birthdays of members from my family. Jeremy Gelbwaks matches my paternal grandmother's birthday-May 22 and Susan Dey's matches my father's birthday-December 10. But personally I didn't see why they had to put Simone the dog on that album(June 26). Except for two episodes in the series' second season, that dog was off the show like Jeremy Gelbwaks then got replaced by Brian Forster who continued on with series until its cancellation in 1974. One more thing worth noting on these first two albums was that David Cassidy's voice was recorded at half speed so when played back at normal speed he sounded youthful like a teen. That was among some of the things he hated during that early Partridge period apart from singing the mid-sections of "I Think I Love You" and "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted". If you still have your vinyl copies of these two albums, hang onto them. If you get these two on CD together, you'll get two deals for the price of one. So C'mon, Get Happy Today!
