First airing in 1999, the series details the adventures of a band of scientists and explorers, who set course from England in a hot air balloon to a remote area of the desertcart jungle in search of a fabled "lost world." Following a crash landing, the group discovers a mysterious plateau and a beautiful jungle woman named Veronica Layton, who has been living in the wilderness since her parents disappeared 11 years earlier, having vanished under mysterious circumstances. The characters realize they are trapped in the lost world and battle against many hostile elements including a mysterious force which created this world. Together, they fight to survive against carnivorous dinosaurs, vicious Neanderthals, a race of lizard men, and other dangers as they search for a way to escape. Starring Peter McCauley, Rachel Blakely, Jennifer O’Dell, William Snow, David Orth, Michael Sinelnikoff and Lara Cox , the characters are complex, well-rounded, and interesting with a great mixture of humor, adventure, and mystery – they sometimes struggle with each other and their relations as much as with their environment. The Lost World ran for three seasons, the final two of which aired in syndication in the United States, before it was cancelled in 2002 after funding for a fourth season was abandoned. I watched this back in the late ninetees on sci-fi channel at lunchtime and waited for it to come out. I watched each and every episode and really got to know the characters inside out. My personal favorite has to be Veronica Layton portrayed by the beautiful Jennifer O Dell. She is the life and soul of the series. Then there is Professor George Challenger (Peter McCauley). who is more than happy to be abandoned in a world of new discoveries and gadgets! I don't like when Lord Jonh Roxton (John Snow)shoots the dinosaurs, but I guess I'm an anImal lover and I LOVE Rachel Blakely as Margurite Krux. David Orth is very sensible and wise as Ned Malone. It's so good, and reassuring, they have an electric cable fence around their tree house! It keeps out dinosaurs and those rogue cavemen too! Very good appearance ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Entertaining and lots of familiar faces *by R***) on 16 July 2026* This DVD set is the complete three series (the fourth was never commissioned so series 3 ends on a cliff-hanger). Not much like the actual Doyle story, but a selection of loose sci-fi episodes featuring combinations of the characters, of which there are now two attractive ladies in addition to the original four men from the stories. The episodes are sometimes spilt into two separate stories but are entertaining in the way Dr Who used to be in the middle years. We've come across conquistadores, amazons, lizard people loosely based on Romans - one of the best characters comes from here. Filmed in Queensland Australia, it's a delight to come across actors from Farscape playing almost their familiar roles, such as Lani Tupu, Wayne Pygram and Melissa Jaffer who pop up as villains any number of times.
