Masters of Deception

I bought this for my daughter who was interested in illusion in art but I didn't want to overdo one artist or another just help her understand that there are lots of artists creating illusions in different ways. She loves it and often dips into it taking it to school to show friends or trys to make drawings like some of the drawings in the book. A great introduction for all ages, could do with more pics and less text but having said that for the price it is a very good start.

Inspiring book, well documented features and a pleasure to read.

Overall a very good book. You can spend hours looking at it, and you will probably discover a lot of worthy artists. However, the election of the different artist are quite "odd", some are really masters, while otheres seem to be a second or third class. The same with the different kinds of "deceptions" described, some are superb, others seem to "low quality" as to be included ...

Better than expected - amazing images, some by lesser promoted artists with well written succinct mini biogs.

This is a marvelously entertaining book that will please both the general reader and those interested in art history. It is, amongst other things,one of those rare books that are better when thumbed through with someone else. The editor has put together some genuinely amazing artists whose cleverness jumps off the page. I imagine teachers could enliven any classroom with the contents of this book. I hope there is a second volume on the way, perhaps including the work of the World War I camouflage artists.

Great book if you want to read about the history of the optical illusion in art! Made a great Christmas present, but shame it's not a hard back that would have made it that bit more special! Lots of great pics that you could sit and stare at for ages! Good value though and quick delivery!

This is an amazing book and I would also recommend buying At Large at the same time. This is a true story of a team of teenage criminals in the late 80s, their story, and how they ended up being caught. It should be a staple book on any library of anyone in cyber security. I really enjoyed the telling of the story, it felt quite novel-like. Great book.

This book is all about the art of optical illusion in its many forms. I was familiar with Dali, Escher and Arcimboldo, but all the other 17 artists whose work is presented here are equally brilliant in their own way. Anamorphosis, trompe l'oeil, impossible 3D sculptures, and much more, almost every page brings an "ooh!", "aaah!", "wait a sec...." or "wow!". The text would have benefited from some editorial TLC and proof-reading, but that's more than offset by the brilliant pieces of art. Buy this book!

Interesting book on illusion artists

This book really is terrific. My boys (ages 5-8) will spend hours poring over the artwork. Each time I pick up the book, I notice something in a particular artwork I didn't realize was there before (similar to listening experiences with The Beatles' later recordings). There is some nudity, but is artfully done so shouldn't be a concern.
