I really love the stove top smoker!
A real energy and wood saver. First try at smoked salmon used 3 tablespoons of fine wood chips. Wrapped good in foil to keep the smoke down, still need an exhaust running over the stove. Only had minor smoke smell in the house. This will be exceptional when the weather is good to smoke outside, small grill a small amount of charcoal versus firing up a big smoker.

Smokin' fool
I love smoked vegtibles, fish, and game. In the summer I fire up a grill or barrel smoker at least a couple of times a week. In the fall, harvest time, even more often. I live in Ohio where the weather gets bitter cold in January and February. I find myself cooking outside less often on those cold windy days. This is the idea behind the purchase of this stove top smoker. I tried out the stove top smoker with onions. Something simple and inexpensive should results be less than desirable. I used a tablespoon of the sawdust included in the package, and did nothing more than peel and quarter the onions. I have a gas range and used the medium low fire setting. The smoke started up within two minutes. I like a deep pantina, the onions took 45 minutes. I knew the lid would not contain 100% of the smoke, but I found out that I have to "tweek" the lid a bit more to reduce smoke escape. I made this trial run in September, on a mild day so I could comfortably open the windows. The pros- Easy setup/clean up Economical to own and operate Minimum storage space Great smoke flow within the chamber Outstanding results, food wise.. great color and taste Many additional cooking options, (not yet tested.) The cons- The escaping smoke, even after tweeking, is a bit more than expected. A long slow smoked food would compromise air quality in a medium to small kitchen. Ventilation is needed to keep the smoke from being overwhelming. That said, I turned on a box fan to draw air in from a side room, and a ceiling fan in the dining room on the other side to lessen the smoke. This kept my daughter, who's eyes are very sensitive to smoke, from watering. I may cover the pan entirely in foil on days not practical to vent outside air. Will I recommend this stove top smoker? Yes! Would I buy again? Yes! Will I use it in the tiny fishing cabin on an ice fishing trip? Nope!

A Very Good Stovetop Smoker For Indoor Use
I don't know why other reviewers complained about the top of this smoker not fitting properly. I have used mine 3 times & the lid slid into place and came off with no problems every time. You definitely need to line the bottom of the smoker with a double layer of heavy-duty tin foil for easy clean-up. And make sure the foil doesn't reach above the top lip of the smoker, otherwise you will have problems sliding the lid on. But this smoker worked like a charm! I had never used a smoker before & I'm a city girl, so I was worried about too much smoke leaking out & setting off the alarm in my apartment. But I put on the exhaust fan, opened my kitchen window about 2 in. & all was well. With the lid completely closed, very little smoke leaked out. I smoked scallops the first time I used it, then I smoked a 2.5 lb. piece of pork belly for bacon, both times with delicious results. The third time I smoked raw duck eggs & they turned out very tasty also. I recently upgraded to a better quality stovetop smoker so I can smoke larger items. But I will definitely keep this Cameron smoker for future use. If you like smoked meats but don't have an outdoor grill, this stovetop smoker is just what you need.

Really works
It does work indoors on the stovetop. Keep your exhaust fan on high. Be sure to use a medium heat. For example, I have 9 heat settings on the burner and #3 worked just fine. If you set it too high, the food will overcook and there will be a lot of fumes in the kitchen. I so missed BBQ'd food at home and here's a great solution. It really does work. The food comes out with a very appealing, smoky, moist, flaky taste. I cooked salmon without any fat whatsoever. Only spices and lemon. It came out great and the temperature was a perfect 200 degrees. Steak was good, but I still have to experiment to allow time for browning on a cast iron pan. The unit is small, allowing preparation of a meal for one, max two at best. I would opt for a bigger size if available.

Smoke leaks
It takes messing with it to stop the smoke from leaking out but once that was resolve, it smoked the sausages nicely.

Great small-sized smoker
I did not know these existed until I took a class at a local cooking shop. What a revelation! So far I've done shrimp and scallops and they have been so tender and succulent! I think I still prefer pan-searing the scallops but this is a great way to cook them. The shrimp were simply amazing. I haven't tried anything else but I think a batch of wings would be interesting. It does emit some smoke but since the seafood cooks fairly quickly it has been fine. If I were going to make something that takes much longer (like the wings probably would), I think I would use it on my grill to keep the smoke outdoors. This is a perfect size for 1 or 2 people, but I made 24 scallops in it for an appetizer for 6 people with no problem.

Smoker advertised as 11" x 7" x3.5" However when using it I was found it to be only a little over 2" high and as a result I cant cook the quantity I expected
