Good basic machine
This machine is promoted as a beginner's machine and I am most certainly not a beginner having been sewing for over 50 years but this gave me the functionality that I wanted and nothing that I didn't. Why pay and additional £50 or more for stitches that I'll never use? I have been using this machine for a few months now and have made several garments, bedding and done repair jobs. What I haven't stitched yet is very heavy fabric like jeans weight denim but I expect that with the proper needle it would be fine. Overall I am very pleased with it. At first I thought it was very light but my old machine was nearly 40 years old and technology does move on! Initially I was a bit concerned that all the stitches were all pre-set for stitch length but that doesn't bother me now. It is easy to thread but I do find getting the shuttle on to the spindle in the correct position to be able to load it with thread a bit a bit awkward. I think the mechanism for disengaging the needle and enabling the shuttle to spin could be better so if you buy this machine just go slowly and don't apply too much force through frustration. Mind out, it could be me doing it wrong but I have read the instructions and don't think I am. All in all I am very pleased with the machine and have no regrets at all in buying it.

Great sewing machine
Amazing full size sewing machine for the beginner or someone that wants a basic machine that actually works. I had a Singer for many years that cost over £300 but stopped working and was always playing up. I choose this Brother machine as it was £89 and other reviews made it sound okay. It is so easy to thread so I was sewing away after a few minutes. The only thing I miss from my Singer, is that the needle doesn't end in the down position when you stop sewing but is enough to sort by turning the dial on the side. Very happy with my decision to buy this machine

Easy to use
This has a spool built in. Easy to use and easy to store. It is light to carry , although a little noisy. It is compact and a good value for money . The quality is not the best but this makes it light so can't have it all ways.

Excellent value sewing machine
Excellent, simple, versatile and fantastic build quality. Had my eight year old daughter happily stitching stuff in minutes. Very easy to set up with good clear instructions to boot. My only sewing machine experience comes from another sewing machine bought through amazon that was slightly cheaper than this one and proved to be rubbish. Sent that one back and got this. So far so good

Perfect for beginners
I am a complete beginner when it comes to sewing, but the Brother L14S has made the process a lot easier than I assume it would have been had I chosen a more advanced device. It comes with a selection of sewing styles, including the traditional straight stitch, and a great selection of zig zag stitches which have been ideal for me using jersey cotton to make baby clothes. The machine is easy to thread, and the tension wheel is also easy to use. The fact that you can sew backwards at the start of each stitch is also great - you couldn't do that when I was at school! Since purchasing this, I've made dungarees, bibs and baby leggings and before buying this I hadn't sewn anything in 20 years! I probably will purchase a separate overlocker (serger) at some point, but this machine has been more than suitable for everything I've needed it for. At the price, too, you can't go wrong.

Good small basic machine
Delivered on time, as promised. Easy to use. Machine is small, light and a good price for basic sewing activities. It's small storage compartment is a little strange as it opens to the side, not the top of the machine base, potentially spilling its content when opened.
