easy set-up
I set the printer up using a USB connection. Printer did not come with the USB cable but I already had one. I downloaded the printer driver from the Cannon web site. Printed a test page with no problems. Printed a spreadsheet in Excel and all worked well. I did not set up as wireless as all the negative reviews were wireless setup problems. If I need to print from my phone I can always froward. I originally purchased a Brother printer which I returned. It was a nightmare to set up and never worked correctly.

Shame on Canon
Read the negative reviews - they're 100% true. Size The picture and dimensions look like this is a nice, compact footprint. It doesn't reveal that it has a paper drawer that remains open as long as you have paper in it. So, the footprint is actually the size of the paper you have in the drawer. And because the drawer is now always open, you're suseptible to dust. So I load the paper every time I want to print and keep the printer closed. LCD Screen The screen is on the front instead of the top. I laid the device on it's back with the edge off the end of the table for the power cord so I could look down onto the printer in order to read the LCD screen. I also opened the curtains and turned my lights on. Once setup, I laid it flat again. Still, you have to interact with this screen every time you print and for every firemware upgrade. Connection Yes, the instructions suck and mine was actually missing the CD (empty case). I found the best luck was to connect the printer directly to my wi-fi and then locate the printer on my PC on the same network. My PC is directly hard-wired to my router, so not sure if that's why my PC found the printer so easily. I didn't want to connect the printer to my PC via USB since they're more than 6 feet apart. I don't use Apple products nor do I print from my Android. Printing Every single time you print something, the LCD prompts you to select a print drawer. There is only one print drawer. But, you have to scroll down and press okay on the LCD screen for the one and only print drawer before it will print. If there's a firmware upgrade available, it won't print and your job will remain in the queue until you upgrade. Firmware upgrades This is more often than I'd prefer, about as often as your PC receives updates. I've had the printer two months and have had to update the firmware 3 times. This is done through the hard to see LCD screen by scrolling down to Upgrade, pressing OK, and then scrolling one button press at a time to read through the entire agreement (smh). 50-75 or so clicks later, you will be able to proceed. Print quality I gotta say it prints shockingly fast - like 2 seconds. But that means the quality is going to match. Color docs don't translate well, but they are crisp and lightning fast and dry. Toner seems to be priced well, so replacements shouldn't be less than the old inkjet cartridges. Noise Sure, it's noisy, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds cheap. Overall "Buy" if you have lots of patience and just want to print text docs at a lower price point. Otherwise, treat yourself and upgrade. I feel like these printers have been sitting around for decades. They're only giving Canon a bad reputation.

Easy to setup and good quality print
We have used it several months and it’s working very well as light use home printer. It was easy to setup and the cartridge is lasting a long time. There hasn’t been any issues with quality or jams. It’s compact and looks nice. It’s working well with our phones and computer.

KNOW the limitations, and its a good deal (on sale)
This is a GOOD deal BUT you must know the limitations. Luckily, I walked in with eyes wide open due to the many critical reviews here. There are 3 frustrations I've encountered so far: 1. As well noted, the display is hard to read. It should be backlit instead. But, it's not a huge deal. Just use your phones flashlight and it's no problem. This LCD screen is one of the few benefits over comparable Brothers. I didn't have to do a lot of clicking per print as mentioned in another review. 2. The initial wifi setup is frustrating -- especially if you, like me, make the mistake of letting chatgpt give you wrong suggestions. There IS NO WAY to set up the wifi the first time other than typing in your password on the small screen!!! (Well, there's WPS, but that's a huge security risk -- never do that.) This is the biggest mistake Canon makes. Even smart bulbs let you enter the wifi password through the app, afer establishing the temporary device-wifi connection. Canon does NOT let you do that, not using master setup, not using the app, and not using a usb-b cable. So do not let AI's waste your time trying these steps on this model! Just put your password into the tiny LCD screen, yeah it may take 10 minutes or whatever but it's WAY better than wasting hours like I did trying to get it to work from my computer. Pennywise, pound foolish!!! The good news is, after putting in the wifi password, everything worked seamlessly. Windows, Max, Android, Ios all found it instantly. 3. The first step in setup is to remove all the orange tape. I think this will happen to everyone: after removing it all, the toner lid no longer closes. I was frustrated a long time at this step, esp bc cgpt kept telling me the wrong solutions. But it's actually very easy and an online search found it right away: <ok i think amazon doesn't want me to put this external link -- just search for "toner door wont close" and find the canon link> . It's literally a 2 second fix. Good luck, and as long as you don't expect too much, this is a good purchase. On sale, I got it significantly cheaper than the next cheapest duplex wireless laser (Brother's custom version for another retailer). That price differential may get eaten up by toner costs if you do a lot of printing (more than say 30pp per week, assuming you use cheap 3rd party for both). Comparison summary (based on official specs): You also get 1) lower resolution, 2) more limited wifi (2.4GHz only), 3) smaller paper tray, in addition to my aforementioned 4) harder initial setup and 5) more expensive toner. The positives are the A) LCD display and B) slightly smaller footprint. 2/3/4 probably don't matter much for most people, 1 only matters if you are really printing pictures often (in which case you probably prefer color), leaving 5 the cost of toner as the main decider in my opinion. Note I am only 1 day in; I will update if things break too quickly, or there are too many updates, as some other reviewers have mentioned.

Good printer for the money, not that hard to set up.
In response to the whiners that gave low marks, it really isn’t that hard to set up. Yess the little LCD 2” screen is hard to read and they should have lighted it, but for the 15 minutes it takes to set up, I just pointed a light on it and problem solved. The set up didn’t seem like it was designed by someone who wanted a good user experience. Yo set the time zone you have to down button through about a hundred places before you see central US. Setting the clock and date were stupid unnecessary steps if it is going to be connected to the internet. The thing that took the most time was enter the router password, only because it wasn’t immediately clear how you “accept” it after entering the final digit. That should have been mentioned in the user guide (which was pretty crappy, wasted most of the paper space on safety warnings and how to dispose of the unit, and only a paragraph on the set up menu, where most of the confusion lies). Once the wifi password was entered, it just worked, perfectly. On my iPhone I opened a file, hit print, it saw the printer and printed. On the MacBook, I hit printed, I just had to select this printer instead of the one I was replacing, selected the number of copies, and it printed. Zero problems and issues. Easiest and fastest printer I ever set up. Lightweight so it sat on a small shelf by the bed. Energy star so it doesn’t have much of a phantom load when not used. On/off switch on the front so you don’t have to go searching on the side or back to turn it off. Print quality is acceptable. I didn’t notice any more noise than other printers, maybe even a bit less, but my hearing is shot so it hardly matters. So, there is room for improvement, like a better manual, lit LCD screen, paper tray that can close with paper to keep out the dust, and automatic time and date recognition, but I really don’t understand all the complaining about set up. It took fifteen minutes and if they had improved the user interface it could have been done in 5, but it really wasn’t a big deal. I got it on sale and it was a bargain, especially compared to the much crappier laser printer I bought in 1997 for $1400.

Simple, Reliable Laser Printer for Occasional Printing
I picked up the Canon imageCLASS LBP122dw because I was tired of dealing with inkjet printers that dry out when you don’t use them much. For the way I print, a basic monochrome laser just makes more sense, and this one has worked out really well. Setup was straightforward and it was up and running pretty quickly. Since then it’s been solid. The text is sharp, lines are clean, and I haven’t seen any streaking or random toner spots. Most of what I print are occasional shipping labels, plus homemade coloring sheets and word search puzzles. It handles that kind of stuff easily and everything comes out clear and readable. The other big advantage for me is the toner. Because I don’t print a ton, it’s nice knowing the cartridge isn’t going to dry out like inkjet cartridges do. At the rate I print, this one will probably last me years. Overall, it’s been a dependable little printer that does exactly what I need.

Feels CHEAP !
Meh meh fells cheap all around the outside feels like if my dog sneezes too hard the thing will crack! The setting was a pain due to a almost unreadable digital screen, at the very least it should be illuminated but nope, you will need a flashlight to read the thing, printing quality is ok but nothing special, I am debating about sending it back and get a Brother or a Xerox instead.

GONE are the days of "Plug and Play"
You CANNOT install this unless you are a computer Geek. When I am installing it, I'm suddenly asked what my IP Address is. Do YOU know what your IP Address is?? If not, you need to buy a different brand of printer. -- I've had it FOUR MONTHS and have yet to print one page. I was shocked at all the steps and procedures required to set it up. The SetUp manual Skipped Many Steps. For example, first we have to verify that we have all the items. THE SECOND STEP is to open the box and remove it from all the packaging. Is it just me, or should THAT be the FIRST step? (Suggests the remaining instructions were written by a poor communicator.) -- Then it tells us to remove all the TAPE that holds things together. It shows illustrations of two places where we are to remove tape. IT DOES NOT SHOW any of the secret internal passages we have to go to for removing more tape. Those areas aren't mentioned in the written instructions. -- I reached the point where I should have been able to print. The control panel indicates it is ready. But it will not print because it says I'm out of paper. IT IS NOT OUT OF PAPER. SET UP REQUIRES YOU TO KNOW YOUR PAPER'S BOND WEIGHT. My first computer printer was in 1983. I have Never had to tell a printer what my paper's Bond Weight is. I enter it, and it still insists I have to insert paper. -- I think I got a defective unit, but I've had it for over a month and can't return it. I tried to contact Canon, but they have some annoying ELIGIBILTY test requirement and I have to VERIFY my worthiness. And they won't answer questions until I do. OH AND, that little control panel: It's incredibly tiny, I have to use a magnifying glass to read it, and it's dim... overwhelmed by the glare off the tiny glass front. -- It sent a DVD disc for loading the software but who still uses DVD? My laptop doesn't have such a thing. Go to the Canon Website??? After certifying myself AND Registering, the only drivers it offers me are for Samsung or Apple phones. I use Desktop PCs and Laptops for printing. Four months and I haven't been able to use it.

Don't buy this if you don't have perfect vision
I cannot believe what incredible pain i* t** a**Is this printer? It is constantly not able to be identified by any device that is supposed to be connected to enter and the screen is so small that I can not read what is on it even when I have a powerful flashlight trained on it. I'm disappointed. It takes a lot of effort every single time I want to print even one page.
