Contains 1 Bright Blue CelloPhant accessory for any size cello or (French style) bass bow for players ages 3 thru adult. Things 4 Strings accessories, invented by American String Teachers Association honored studio teachers, are teacher designed, d and approved. Our Bright Blue CelloPhant bow accessory instantly positions and supports the fingers of the bow hold! The various anatomical features of the elephant, such as toenails and legs, allow the cellist to feel reference points, for consistent bow holds from practice to practice. The size of the CelloPhant accessory allows an open, relaxedhand, and the circle of the elephant's trunk directs a flexible thumb toward the intersection of the frog and stick, with alternate placements if desired. The bow provides the breath of tone for string players. While cello bow technique varies widely among fine players, all agree a primary focus of the cello bow hold is lack of tension, and a flexible thumb and fingers. Teachers appreciate the flexible-use design of this accessory, allowing for differences of pronation, depending on their own bow technique and student hand size. The accessory is useful for all hand sizes, age 3 through Adult. The accessory also is designed to deliberately add a touch of weight to assist beginning players to achieve a bit more effortless tone -- more tone with which to fall in love! The CelloPhant accessoryuniquely train the hand to hold the bow correctly and naturally, through muscle memory, thereby freeing the player to learn and enjoy other elements of string playing. This little gadget allowed him to successfully play with the bow at his first cello practice. I play the violin, viola, and cello, and I know how hard it can be to master a proper bow hold. It's worth every penny! Review: Its heavy but my 8 yr old daughter loved it. After switching from violin to cello she had to relearn her bow hold and this really helped.

My 1st choice is for students to build the muscle to hold their bows without a prop. However, I run a 'premie' class for very tiny ones. And though they begin the class without this, I think it's a fine teaching aid for the super young. Their dexterity is still developing. And the grip helps with placement and relaxation. Give them a perfect bow hold. I like it for my highly collapsable fingers! I'm double jointed and the either collapse with tension or lock. So this relaxes the finger that likes to lock. And keeps my thumb joint from inverting when gripping. Though I can manage without it, I am so much more relaxed with it. Cello is not my primary instrument, so I have not built the muscles around the bow hold from very young. But I am a music educator who can play the cello. ;)

This seemed like a great idea with lots of reviews. However, it didn't work for us at all. The listing says, "Flexible Use: one size for ages 3 - Adult." I don't know if I'd agree. It did not work at all for my almost 4 year old son and was way to large for his hand. It also was loose on his bow and was flopping and moving around as well. Overall, it seemed to undermine the proper placement of the hand more than help due to this. Maybe this would work better for someone who is older, but it didn't work for us.

I bought this for a cello student of mine and I have to say, that it is much heavier than I was expecting and extremely hard to use. My student has small hands and couldn't get his hand around it. It made it harder to hold the bow rather than easier. Unfortunate :(
