Collins Life-Size Birds: The Only Guide to Show British Birds at their Actual Size : Paul Sterry, Rob Read: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Brilliant and fun! - I have what I would call more 'serious' birding books.. And added this to my collection as more of a bit of 'fun'.. But actually I am very impressed with it as a more informative book as well! Not only are the photographs beautiful.. The text and maps etc. are all as informative as other birding books (at first I thought it more may be aimed at a younger audience but it doesn't feel that way). The photos are great for comparison as they are large enough to see differences - the tiny birds have life size photos but ALSO blown up bigger ones which is very cool! Ie. For Goldcrest / Firecrest.. The great big ones like the Swan show the head and neck rather than the whole bird (in case you wondered as the book is not swan sized!).. Overall, very cool.. And I'm very impressed with this special book! Would be a fantastic gift for anyone young or old, beginner or dedicated birder - add some FUN to your birding library!! Review: Beautiful book and very useful. - This is the first bird book I have bought since being a child many years ago. Reason for buying is that having just moved house, our garden is frequented by a variety of birds, some I hadn’t seen previously. As for the book it is substantial in size and weight. If one has limited strength or ability this might not be for you. The pictures are lovely and in good detail. The text is informative and nicely presented. I find this book useful to have on the coffee table as I look out at the bird table and bird bath. This is also quite a bargain, as at the time of purchase it was less than half list price.

Birds of a feather...
Is this a neat book? ....yes... ....does it have great photography?....yes... it does... Was I a bit let down that the bigger birds that are 'life sized' are a head or neck.... a bit.... Now I didn't expect to have a fold out page that had the complete size of a swan on it.... but a couple would've been helpful.... ....plus having any pictures that appear in the middle of the page where the spine is more than a little unhelpful.... It's a nice big book, but it was a shade disappointing...

The best Bird reference I’ve seen for years!
I do a lot of wood carving, so I wanted to carve a Fieldfare, hunting for a picture reference I chose this Collins Life Size Bird book. What a fantastic reference book, life size examples, plus photographic pictures. It’s a large book but covers all British varieties in detail. I’m so chuffed with this book, it’s difficult to grab it from family…good value!

What a fantastic book on our feathered friends! The quality of the photos and overall presentation is superb! Certainly justifies the premium price over other similar bird books

A great resource
We have had this book for over a year and I bought it to help me identify birds visiting our garden. I have also used it to identify birds seen while walking my dog in the valley beyond. It lives in the living room close at had so we can identify our avian visitor. It is a big book and has beautifully coloured photos and a clear description of the different species. It includes a life size photo which I find helpful. I was not aware how to identify the difference between "Great tits" and "Blue tits" or House Sparrow and Tree Sparrows before I got this. I am really enjoying my new found "expertise". This is probably an introduction to identifying birds. For a novice like me, it has been a great resource that I will continue to enjoy and use.
