is this product actually clear when it sets?

It thickens the liquid to make a sauce, so it becomes the colour your sauce will be.

Please may we ask if this is an 'instant' thickener? If added to hot liquids does it thicken? Or does it need to be boiled through before it thickens?

Do this ...mix with a little sugar, add to the mixture....it will thicken as it cools, no need to boil..it gets thicker as it gets cooler, do not overdo the Clear Jel.Add as per recipe.It will thicken hot liquids.You MUST mix with a little sugar to stop any lumps.
