I have used a few different sifters for compost and garden soil, and this one does a solid job for basic screening tasks. The 1/4 inch mesh size works well for removing larger debris, rocks, and clumps while allowing finer soil and compost to pass through easily. It fits securely over a standard 5 gallon bucket, which makes the process cleaner and more controlled compared to handheld screens. The frame feels sturdy enough for regular garden use, and the mesh holds up well when shaking or rubbing soil through it. It is lightweight and easy to handle, though for very large batches it can take some time since you are working bucket by bucket. These work great. They are way more durable and thick than I imagined they would be. They fit nearly perfect over a 5 gallon bucket. I used the larger mesh to sift compost to remove larger debris. Worked great and does not show any signs of wear. I used the smaller mesh to sift worm castings. Also worked great for that.

WOW. Just arrived today. Could not be more impressed with the quality and sturdiness. They even fit my 5 gallon buckets that have Gamma screw on lids. I thought the ring that gets added on might make the opening too small. Being able to sift potting mix directly into the bucket will be great- then screw on the lid and DONE! I can also see using it for harvest- collect the produce, rinse it with the hose, and into the kitchen it goes. No, it's not stainless steel. If it was, it would have said so. Just let it dry out when you are not using it and store it properly. Such a deal for a 1/8" and 1/4" strainer.

This fits nicely in the top of a 5 gal bucket. I used it to sift compost and make seed starting mix. Works as it should. I gave it a 4 because I wish it was just slightly larger between the mesh.

Fits on a 5gal bucket and the mesh holds shape, NOT cheap like a kitchen strainer. Mesh is a good size for sifting potting mix.

This is a well made product and is heavy duty! It sits in a 5 gallon pail perfectly and I use it to separate wood burning ash ( which are great for the gardens) from residual charcoal. I reuse the charcoal as a fire starter for my next fire and it works very well. Should you wish to separate the ash from the charcoal to a greater degree there are other mesh options available here. The actual process of separating the residue with the mesh is easy. You siimply place the materials into the mesh strainer and gently rock the bucket side to side. It takes only seconds to get your end result!

Using this with a 15l bucket to sift wood pellet cat litter when cleaning out the cat litter trays. This is a very solid item, zero flex and perfectly made. Seems like it will last me decades.

These sifters work great! I am using them to sift out 1/2 inch stones from a patch in my yard to make a new garden. They're good and sturdy enough to get smaller jobs done.
