A Game Changer For Sure!
Best decision I’ve made so far! I am absolutely thrilled with my new Garmin Edge 540 cycling computer! From the moment I started using it, I've been incredibly happy with its performance and the wealth of features it offers. It has truly revolutionized my cycling experience and significantly contributed to improving my performance on every ride. One of the greatest standout features, and something my previous unit sorely lacked, is the hill climbing feature. Knowing what's coming, how much elevation is left, and being able to pace myself accordingly has been an absolute game-changer. It's an invaluable tool for optimizing my effort and tackling climbs with a newfound strategy and confidence. This alone makes the 540 worth every penny. Before purchasing, I was aware that the Garmin Edge 540 was not a touchscreen unit like the 840, but honestly, this was not a huge issue for me. The button interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, even with gloves on, and I've found it to be incredibly responsive and reliable. The clarity of the display and the ease of use have far outweighed any desire for a touchscreen. Beyond the fantastic hill climbing feature, I've thoroughly enjoyed utilizing all the other capabilities of the 540. From precise GPS tracking and clear navigation prompts to detailed performance metrics and seamless integration with my other sensors, every feature works flawlessly. I'm constantly impressed by how much data I can access and how effectively it helps me analyze my rides and pinpoint areas for improvement. To any cyclist considering a new computer, I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend the Garmin Edge 540. If you're looking for a robust, feature-rich, and incredibly reliable device that will genuinely help you elevate your cycling performance, look no further. This is a product that delivers on all its promises and then some!

Worth the price!
Fantastic computer. Big upgrade from my Edge 530. It captures my metrics better than the Edge 530 did. I wish Garmin could capture METs as a metric, but I found a back way to get that number. I primarily ride indoors and I have not tried out the GPS. It connects flawlessly with my HRM 200, cadence sensor, and speed sensor. The use of a USB-C cable is a nice change, I can use the same iPhone cable for my cycling computer that I can for my iPhone. It is easy to create indoor cycling training and it keeps track of my laps automatically vs having to click the "lap" button for my training.

Everything you need for a bike computer.
I upgraded to this from a Garmin 130 Plus. I wanted better map functionality as well as a bigger screen. This does take a little bit of getting used to as there are A LOT more features and therefore the menu is also bigger. I have ridden 1000 miles on this now and I am very happy with this device. I just rode a 74 mile ride yesterday and went to charge the device and it was already at 100% battery due to the solar charging! I did have the display brightness at 30% so if you change that, your result may vary. The alert volume is very loud and I have no problems hearing it on windy days. I really like the climb profile screen, which my previous Garmin did not have. It shows you when you are approaching a big climb and has a profile of it so you know where you are at. You dont want to power thru a climb only to find out there is still more climbing to go and your legs are spent. I have had no issues getting GPS signal even when I am riding in the middle of no where. I live in an agricultural state so we have a lot of rural roads with little to no cell service, and this works great!

Great Product from Garmin
I've been using the Garmin Edge 540 for a few weeks now, and overall, it's an impressive upgrade from my older cycling computer. The build quality is solid, and the device feels premium. The display is crisp and easy to read, even in bright sunlight, and the battery life has been excellent—lasting several long rides without issue. What I really like is the updated interface and button-only control. While some might miss the touchscreen, I find the physical buttons more reliable, especially when wearing gloves or riding in the rain. The ClimbPro feature and the improved navigation with multi-band GPS are huge pluses, offering more accurate data and better route guidance. The integration with Garmin Connect and other third-party platforms works well, and syncing is fast and reliable. I also appreciate the training and performance metrics, which help me stay on track with my fitness goals. My only real gripe is the initial setup process—it felt a bit clunky and took longer than expected to get everything dialed in. Also, for the price, I would have liked to see a mount with more versatility included in the box. Still, the Edge 540 is a powerful tool for serious cyclists and definitely worth considering. Just be ready for a small learning curve.

It’s great! Just pricey
Purchased for my husband’s bike! He has so enjoy this! pairing it with his phone and heart rate monitor, he no longer needs to wear his watch! Hello no funny tan lines!!! The product is high quality and battery lasts for so long. It is the perfect size for his bike and has yet to have an issue connecting to his phone or the directions. High recommendation if you can afford it (it was a fancier christmas present for us)

Good Product
Must have for cycling. All computers take some time to get the settings to what you want but the edge 540 is pretty good once you get it set up

Bike computer proves hard to figure.
This computer seems to work OK but it is a challenge to figure out how to use it. Included instructions are not clear at all. I am sure I will figure it out sooner or later and it will end up being very useful.

Everything you need
I’ve been super happy with this unit. I searched and looked at all the various models from the big brands. I eventually landed on the Garmin 540. It has all the functionality I need and was a perfect price. The screen size is adequate and makes it easy to mount. The lack of a touch screen is the only thing I’d maybe consider upgrading for but honestly with sweaty fingers on a good ride the physical buttons make it easier to manipulate anyways. The Garmin app is also great

5/5 — Massive upgrade, excellent value, buttons make sense
I recently purchased the Garmin Edge 540 Solar and couldn’t be happier with it. I’m getting back into cycling and needed a proper upgrade from my previous Garmin Edge that I bought back in 2007 — and wow, what an upgrade this is. There is a small learning curve with the button-based controls, but once you understand the flow of the menus, it all makes sense. With larger hands, I had no issues at all using the buttons, and I’m actually glad I didn’t go with a touchscreen model. I almost bought the 840 but couldn’t justify spending an extra $350 — and now I’m very glad I didn’t. I chose the Solar version purely because it was on a better sale and ended up cheaper than the non-solar model. I don’t expect the solar charging to benefit me much personally, but at that price it was a no-brainer. That said, the battery life is outstanding — I’m genuinely impressed. I use the Edge 540 both indoors and outdoors, and switching between profiles is very quick and straightforward. I also appreciate how many data fields you can display at once — having up to 10 real-time data fields is fantastic if you like seeing cadence, heart rate, speed, time, etc. all at once. I was previously using a Garmin Venu for cycling and had some doubts about wrist-based heart rate accuracy. As part of setting up the Edge 540 with Garmin Connect, all my existing sensors automatically transferred over, which was a really nice surprise. I also paired a new HRM 200 heart rate strap (my old one was nearly 20 years old), and everything worked flawlessly. One thing I really like is that Garmin includes multiple mounting options. I added an extra mount so I can easily move the Edge 540 between my road bike and my mountain bike. It takes seconds to swap over and makes the device much more versatile without needing a second computer. Maps are new to me, and I’m still learning that side of things, but they’ve already proven useful. I also liked that some of the setup could be done from my phone, which made initial configuration easier. One thing I don’t want is music controls or extra “smartwatch” features on a bike computer — I use my phone for that. The Edge 540 focuses on doing cycling data extremely well, and that’s exactly what I wanted. My advice: take some time to learn the device and set it up the way you like. Once you do, it’s an incredibly powerful and intuitive cycling computer. Highly recommended.
