TAKE THE PLASTIC TIP OFF BEFORE PUTTING IN SOIL
Works well, I use these for indoor plants due to the plastic and not knowing if they are properly sealed. The conductor spike is quite long and will work with deep planters, very light weight, Quality is what you can expect with the price so dont pound it in hard soil , easy to use when you maintain any soil. I have bought these before and leave them in my big pots they are in fact rust resistant and durable. The reader unit is about 3 inches tall by 2 wide. They can be hidden with taller plants, so the look is not as important than the job of maintaining my plants.

Good design. The long testing probe is great for deep water testing. Seems more accurate than my last meter. Reads damp when I test with my finger. My other did not.

Itโs great!
I just got it yesterday and promptly checked all my outdoor potted plants with it and It seemed spot on. (I had definitely been overwatering my succulents ). Simple to use and no batteries needed! Iโm glad I got the one with the longer probe and would recommend that one unless your pots are very small. It seems well made and not flimsy at all. Be sure to keep the box It comes in because it lists the moisture requirements for most plants.

Doesn't work
Doesn't work. I put it in soaking wet soil but it says dry.

Nice meter but has some drawbacks
I purchased the longer meter so I wouldn't have to bend over as much to check my new landscaping. It does a great job measuring the water in the soil. First, the probe bent, which I straightened out, but, just now while using it, the bottom broke of in wet soil. Wires are hanging out the bottom, so, I don't know if I can find the bottom piece & attach or not. Haven't decided yet...I have 2 other meters that, while shorter, have held up fine. At 72 it's so hard to bend over for more than 5 minutes before my back screams for ice & Ibuprofen. I paid a lot for my landscaping & am not going to let it die if possible. I plan on using the shorter probes for now.
