It will be a great help in my art "career"
It arrived yesterday so I haven't had time to read it fully but I did see some patterns to help with my drawing. There are numerous hints in colour mixing and equipment to use. It will be a great help in my art "career"

Thoroughly recommend this excellent book
Excellent book for the beginner. He suggests what paints and brushes to buy which are surprisingly quite minimal. Simple sketches are provided for you to copy so very little drawing is required. Charles basically holds your hand and tells you what colours are needed, and what mixes are required leaving you to determine the strength of each mix. I have only done 2 paintings so far but as someone in their 70’s who has done very little painting since leaving school I am delighted to have found this brilliant book, I only wish there were more acrylic painting books available by Charles.

A very good book.
I found this to be a very good book, because it explains about materials brushes etc.and then how to start with simple paintings working up to more advanced paintings, there are also outlines you can trace onto paper or canvas to save time sketching. All in all a very good book.

Absolute beginner is right - it’s basic
When it says absolute beginner, it means it here. If you are a beginner/aspiring artist and you are more interested in painting acylics in the watercolour style, then maybe it’s useful for you. I was hoping for more painting in the oils style, and although I am a beginner in acrylics, I am not a beginner artist, so didn’t find it so good. There are some good basic tips for painting in figures and trees, so not entirely unhelpful.

Seems to be well written and easy to understand - covers lost of topics
Haven't read it all yet - so this is just first impressions. It covers a good spread of topics, and is well written with enough of a sense of humour, but without going overboard. I like it so far - can't say whether my abilities will be improved having read it - but I'm hopeful!

If you are at the "paint by numbers" skill level, looking for a step up, this book is for you (especially if you are into nature scenes). Charles doesn't spend much time on technical theory, he shows you some practical basics and then you jump right in and start painting trees. Roughly half of the book is step by step instructions for painting the included scenes. The book includes 12, 11x17 inch outline sketches, which you can trace onto watercolor paper. Charles shows you how to mix the color, what brush to use, and walks you through the painting techniques. I was surprised at how not-too-bad some of my paintings turned out. My only criticism is that the book abruptly ends after finishing the final scene, with no closing words or suggestions of where to go from here. Still, highly recommended for the absolute beginner.

The author is good at his work and he explains the craft to the reader quite comprehensively. I managed to learn some really good techniques. See pics. However, the book delivery was delayed by weeks by the supplier and hence i have not given a full rating.
