Brod & Taylor Proofer
Brod & Taylor Proofer Is a game changer for me and my Sourdough Bread and Pizza, rolls and other items baked with Sourdough. My kitchen is cold so sourdough takes quite a while and now it rises a lot quicker with this Proofer. I absolutely love it. It is made well with good quality materials and best of all it folds away so doesnโt take up much space. In my opinion, well worth the money.

Game changer
If you make a lot of bread this is a must. If you just make the odd loaf then the cost may not be worth it. I canโt believe how quickly I can make a sourdough loaf. Because you can control the environment you no longer have to hang around for hours till it proofs. Check out Utube for detailed info. It also folds up into a flat pack for easy storage. Brilliant.

It works for sourdough!
I'm delighted with this product. Having struggled to make sourdough bread in my cool house for months and months, I've just successfully made my first professional looking soughdough loaf using this proofer! It is very expensive but it did the trick and it folds away after use.

Great bread proofer!
It is an amazing instrument helping me to start a sour bread starter and rising the dough after it is being mixed. To make a sourdough starter you need to keep the mixture of the flour and water in the constant humid warm temperature for up to 3 days. This genius instrument is exactly what I was looking for! It makes all the proces a joy ride. Have not tried it for anything else yet. The difference in the set temperature and the actual one (in my case*) is about 2-3 degrees in Celsius. So I need to set 2-3 degrees higher to what I require in order to get the correct required temperature inside of the "incubator"... After the dough has been mixed it is a great place to put your future bread to rise. Loving it! Makes my journey of making the sour bread a joyful ride full of pleasure. Genius!

Great proofer for home use, perfect size to make sweet buns/rolls for family!
Great proofer! Good size for home use, you can fold it away to store. I wanted a small proofer to make sweet buns and rolls and it does the perfect job. My first attempt went well. After making dough with bread maker, divided into 6 pieces and filled with homemade custard cream, left them in the proofer 30 min at 40 degrees and then put them in the oven for 15 min at 180 degrees. My first item was faulty, but customer service was great and I got replacement soon. Good item and good seller!

Temperature not very accurate
I use a thermometer (I've changed a few) to check the temperature and the is always 2-3 degrees difference, so not fully reliable (on the thermometer the temp is lower than on the proofer). Also, the cord is way too short and I always need an extension to use it comfortably.

Wow!
I bought it as a birthday present for my husband, and it's great! Super compact and easy to use and store away, does the job for a household like ours!

It was always too random until now.
There is no other device I am aware of that can help to prepare good bread at home. The key point is an option to control temperature from 20 deg C regardless of the weather outside. It just does the job.

Updated Review: More Loaves
Update after a few loaves: I've run a few loaves of white bread and a few baguettes through the proofer. The results are consistent. I get a nice rise with no drying out of the dough. The temperature seems to come up quickly enough and remains constant. Staying within the size limits of the proofer I'd say this product is outstanding. On the Saturday evening I received the proofer I forwarded my review to Brod & Taylor. Within an hour I received answers to the comments I made below. Here's what I was told: Brod & Taylor will be coming out with a longer power cord based on other customer comments. It is easier to remove the pan of water if you raise up the box and let it fold towards the back. Now it is easy to maneuver the water tray without dripping. The temperature measured on my oven thermometer was invalid because it's not what it is intended for. However the thermometer did tell me that the inside temperature remained stable. They sent me a new base unit which snaps closed perfectly. They sent me a pre-paid return sticker so they can evaluate the original base. How about that? Effective product and great service for a real good price. Original Review: My proofer arrived today. I didn't know such a thing existed before I read a mention of it on a baking forum. I had been proofing my bread in the oven as I keep the house quite cool (low 60's in the winter). I'd set the oven to "warm" and then let it cool to about 85 deg, put in the greased bowl with the dough ball and then wait. I'd repeat the process for the second rise in the bread pan. Then I'd pull out the bread pan, preheat the oven and bake. A few problems with this are: 1) the temperature in the oven would drop to room temp in a short period of time so rise was slow. I'd average about 2 hours for both first and second rise, 2) invariably the damp cloth I placed over the bowl would become entangled with the dough making a bit of a mess, 3) humidity, even with the damp towel was uncontrolled so it wasn't uncommon for the dough to develop a dry skin over the top, and 4) after crowning the bread pan I'd have to pull it out of the oven and preheat so the bread was still (slowly) rising past where I wanted it. I've only messed up one loaf by allowing it to rise too high on the second rise. So for under $150 I see this proofer. Based on the price and the way it seems to fold for storage along with the maintainable proofing environment it seemed too good to be true. I was also wondering why some of the big names in kitchen appliances don't make such a thing. But the reviews were generally positive and I had to try it out. The proofer was packed in a flat box within the shipping box. Internal support during shipping is provided by heavy cardboard on each end suspending the unit within the box. I elected overnight (Saturday) shipping and the box arrived at my door with no external marks. Inside everything looked to be in perfect condition. Inside the box was the main proofing unit, power cord, wire rack (which also makes a pretty nice cooling rack), small water pan and an instruction booklet with a couple of recipes - one of which I want to try. Setup was easy. Lift the cover up to the 90 degree position. Lift up the box and fold it outward making sure it fits into the guides left, right and front when fully extended. Place the water tray in the middle and the wire rack over it. Put some water into the water tray. The cover lifts off the back hinge and lays on the top of the box. The cover does not snap in place and I was never quite sure I had it on right. The power cord plugs into the side near the control panel. Plug it in, turn it on, set the temp and wait 10 minutes. During use I had a dial-type cooking thermometer in the box. The temp was set for 85 and the thermometer read 80. I figured this was close enough considering the thermometer is the type that is inserted into meats and such. Here it was just in the open air. The cover has a clear plastic area so the dough is easily visible throughout the proofing process. I also noticed condensation forming on this window so I was sure the humidity inside was fairly high. After two rises my bread went in the pre-heated and ready oven. The timing for each proofing seemed quite reasonable. The skin of the dough did not seem dry. The final product is as good as any white sandwich bread I've made. There is not much I don't like about this unit. The power cord is very short which I think is odd for a larger kitchen appliance. It is not the size of a toaster which can fit nicely under a counter close to a power outlet. This unit has to be out in the open so at least for me an extension cord is a necessity - which I do not like. Also, the cord end that plugs into the proofer is not the standard removable cord like used on PCs and other electronic gadgets. If it were then I could add a good length power cord. Also, the water pan is very shallow. After a few hours of proofing there was still plenty of water in it and of course I splashed it all over the place trying to remove it. I can probably find a better way to move it to the sink to empty it. When it is all closed up the top lid is difficult to snap in place in the front. Actually, I was very concerned I would break off a piece of plastic. It would be nice if it snapped closed easier and was more secure. It would also have been nice to have a handle molded into the unit. None of these issues are a big deal but I thought I should mention it. I plan to update the review after a few more uses. My initial impression of the proofer is 99% positive. If you are the type of person that keeps your home a little cool in the winter and a little warm in the summer I think this proofer can bring a stable environment where your bread can rise predictably. At this price I wasn't expecting such a well designed, manufactured and functional device.

Buon articolo, ma costoso.
Buon articolo, ma forse un po' troppo costoso per la tipologia di apparecchio e i materiali utilizzati.

Brod & Taylor Bread Proofer & Yogurt Maker - Folding Love at first use!!!
I've been making bread for a few years now and due to the fact that I don't have a stable and warm place to proof my dough, my results have always been iffy. As often as I was able to I've used my bread machine to make my bread, but this method isn't always the way to go and hence, my problem with a warm and stable environment for proofing my bread dough. When I was exploring ways to make a DIY proofer, I came across a link for this Brod & Taylor Bread Proofer and I was like "What?" I didn't know there was such a thing, but now that I found it I will move mountains to get one and since my birthday was just around the corner, I TOLD...not asked, hahaha....my husband that I needed one of these ASAP and like a sweetheart he said 'yes' and voila....I got my proofer! It's not homemade, so it doesn't take up mounds of space and it folds for easy storage! Woohoo! I felt like I'd struck gold and when I finally received it (it took a little longer than expected, because the item was out of stock) I used it that very day, because I was already working on a bread dough when it arrived and it was like a gift from the gods! :) I used it with water in the supplied pan and my dough proofed like a dream with a nice moist surface and all this without heating the oven, shutting it off, adding a pan of water, etc... I was extremely pleased and have used this machine for proofing during a few bread making sessions now and I can't believe how wonderful this appliance is and how much easier it is to make my bread now! Once the item was back in stock, it arrived very quickly...in a matter of a couple of days actually! The packaging was great and everything arrived in top condition! No more trying to figure out how I'm going to finish proofing my dough because I need to preheat my oven to bake the bread. And for me, this appliance will be used year round, because during the summer months we have our central air going and the house is always kind of coolish! I highly recommend the Brod & Taylor Proofer for anyone who needs a warm and stable environment to proof their dough for bread-making.
