Practical and instructive
I’m really enjoying this book. Probably a 1/3 of the way through and find this a relaxing way to spend the evening. I’m learning a ton about construction of the head. I feel like this was a good purchase and would be happy to buy another one of his books. Update; halfway through the book and feel like I’ve learned so much. If you’re wanting to learn the Loomis method, might as well learn if from Loomis. Worth the money and effort.

This book is a real help for artists wannabes.
What a nice go-to book for artists. I love the way it's so free spirit with so many tips and various problems being addressed in ways we all have to learn, if we want to master this very difficult art.

Dated, but still well worth owning
For some of us "how to draw" books were hard to come by in our younger days. Back in my childhood the only inexpensive instruction books were the large format Walter Foster prints that could be had for $3 or so at the local department stores. The Andrew Loomis hand and head books were rare as hen's teeth and grabbed them whenever I could (even if it meant I couldn't buy a G.I Joe that month). I still own 3 of those Loomis/Foster books and treasure them highly. This book contains everything in those volumes as well as much that was considered too risqué for a family friendly art department. Though Loomis' work can come across as dated, the basics still apply and the "Loomis Method" is still considered one of the best and most adaptable drafting systems within the art community. Loomis was big on showing that ANYONE can draw with the proper for of instruction, he empowered artists of all ages and his work deserves to be more well known outside of the art community. This is a beautiful hardback copy at a magnificent price and could easily serve as the only instruction book an aspiring artist needs

Not for beginners
Not bad but honestly this isn't for beginners. He adds too much details to the examples and jumps around. I feel like the skeletal examples should have been further to the beginning of the book with clear step by step drawings on what he's really focusing on the same with the middle line plate 4 is a good example of what to lookfocus on. I skipped the bone structure and wil circle back if I need it. I also noticed print issues with paragraphs not aligning with the flow of plate descriptions it just trails off and talks about something else or the sentence is just randomly placed. I think this book isn't for beginners more or less someone coming into intermediate from beginner and higher. Luckily I already have experience I just wanted to get into drawing real people. I recommend getting another book along with this one if you want to start drawing real people
