Great budget fountain pen
Love the look and size of the pen. Good writer. It's of course a cheaper fountain pen but I'm impressed with quality and style and love writing with it.

Get This Pen, STAT
This Jinhao X159 is a smooth writer. Juicier than I expected, given my initial experience with the Jinhao 82 (though I’m also using different ink so too many different variables to know for sure). I am really enjoying how fat and chunky this pen is in my hand. It’s a fun writing experience. In my photo, I said that it was a medium nib. But when I looked at the nib, there’s a big fat F on it for fine. If this is a fine nib, I wonder what the medium is like. Perhaps it’s more like a broad and I could throw some shimmer ink in there who knows. I’m very impressed by this pen. Especially at this price point. Go ahead and buy the pen. You won’t be disappointed.

Nice writing big boy
My order arrived more than a week ahead of schedule which I appreciate because 2 will be given as gifts over Thanksgiving. My only complaint is that I ordered <F> (as clearly stated in the product description) but was sent <EF> nib pens. It's not enough to send them back because my intended recipient likes extra fine lines. For me, I am looking for as close to buttery-smooth as I can get and with the <EF>, I feel there is always going to be some light feedback because this just comes with the territory of an extra fine. That being said, these pens are fantastic. They are beefy in the hand, but the grip section is very moderate in thickness. I don't typically post my pens, but it can be posted securely and the cap doesn't back-weigh the pen too much so if you prefer to post this pen, it's ok. Speaking of the cap, it threads on and off with 2 and 1/4 turns. I would love a snap-cap with this model, but I understand the 'inspiration' for the X159 and they certainly stay true to that. I'm using the blue with a converter which holds a small to moderate amount of ink although I think standard international cartridges would work also and may or may not give more ink capacity. The <EF> nib doesn't lay down much ink so the converter should last a while. Overall, this is a very nice pen - suitable for every day use - quick notes or long writing sessions. Dependable writer with classic elegant styling (even if copied) and good build quality. For this price, it is an incredible value!

Great value for the money
The Jinhao x159 is an incredible value for the money. The Jinhao nib on this pen (size 8) is much better than the Jinhao #6 nibs I have experienced before, so the writing is very much better than expected. The F flows well, runs on the wider side for a F (unlike typical Asian nibs) and is smooth. There are a lot of steel nibs out there for more money than this entre pen costs that don't write as well. Impressive size but light weight (it is a plastic pen, after all). The #8 nib adds to the impression that this is a luxury pen. Overall, it looks like a much more expensive pen. It writes like a more expensive pen. The heft gives it away as a less expensive pen. But the build quality is excellent. This would make a great gift as a starter pen (but not for small hands) or a giveaway to anyone entering the hobby. As it is, I find myself gravitating to one of my x159s on a near daily basis, despite owning dozens of much more expensive pens.

Jinhao X159 pen is terrific.
I am totally happy with this pen. It writes beautifully --super smooth. If I did not know that the actual price was $10, I would think it was much more expensive! It is very attractive and looks and acts like some of my much more expensive pens. I am considering purchasing another Jinhao X159 in another color. I highly recommend this fountain pen.

Leaks non-stop while capped
I've had this pen for a month now. The look, feel in the hand, color, and nib are all shockingly good for such a cheap pen. But it leaks like crazy. Slowly, but continually, ink seeps ink into the cap area while capped. When I unscrewed it just now after a few days of non-use, it splashed ink across my hands and t-shirt. I've tried different inks, and cleaning the cap from ink often. The problem always recurs. All my pens do this to some extent, but this leaks in a few days what would take a Lamy Safari months of non-use. Skip and buy something with better quality control.

Gold standard for inexpensive fountain pens
This is the one you want, for an inexpensive fountain pen. Good nib out of the box, comfortable in the hand, nice quality of pen body. Cap threads on nicely. It’s an homage to the MB 149 in size and shape, though lighter in weight.

Looks the part but doesn’t make good of it
I have purchased a pair of the excellent Jinhao 10, so I wondered if they made such a great dupe of a Pilot pen, perhaps they could pull it off with a dupe of Montblanc. They didn’t pull it off. First thing I noticed is a bit of sketchy quality control. The feed in the copy I purchased is noticeably misaligned. The ink flow is very uneven. If you do quick strokes, you’re out of luck. It skips, the ink color and line thickness changes arbitrarily. Only with very slow strokes you can have some kind of consistency. It’s a cheap pen trying to look like a much better expensive one. I’m not going to beat around the bush: It’s the worst fountain pen I own. For less money you can get an excellent Platinum Preppy, if you want performance over looks.

Elegant color
I wanted to apologize since when I got the pen I tried to refill it with the nip attached and I thought it didn’t work , yet when I refill it normally it works perfectly and the item is so good, so affordable yet so elegant.

Broken after only 3 months.
Update Feb. 8, 2026. The Jinhao X159 is now broken! The plastic inside the end, where the clip is, has broken into pieces.

Excelente por el precio
Una pluma fuente grande, con plumín grande, con convertidor de buena capacidad, por un precio muy pequeño. No le pide nada a los modelos de entrada de las marcas más conocidas.
