CompTIA Security+ Certification Kit: Exam SY0-701 (Sybex Study Guide)

I was able to pass my CompTIA Security+ exam on the first attempt using these books as my primary method of study. 100% recommend.

The study guide is exactly what it claims to be — a guide. You can't rely on it alone to pass the exam. It’s essential to develop a deeper understanding of each topic and its subtopics. I read through the entire book and completed all the end-of-chapter tests, but they weren’t nearly as challenging as the questions in the second book focused on practice exams. That one truly tests your grasp of the material. (Of course the knowledge depends on your work experience too). I wouldn’t recommend scheduling the exam after just 45 days, as suggested in the study guide. Instead, use the Practice Test book to identify your weak areas and spend as much time as it takes to learn that topic comfortably before you move on to the next topic. Use the course objectives as a guide for all the topics (you can download it free from the internet). The guide doesn’t offer enough depth to prepare you for the real exam questions. In fact use both books to identify all your weak knowledge areas. Hope this helps.

This use to be a very good study material but the removal of the customisation function now makes it an unpleasant study aid. I hope it can be addressed quickly otherwise we will be saying goodbye to Sybex.

Nothing incorrect about the content. Though if you are attempting to pass the cert there are significant gaps. Some of these gaps just seem lazy, the publisher seems like they don't want to impact Comptia's business too much by being too helpful to students at a lower price. If you are short of money and plenty of time this book is of some use. If you want to pass first time then you need to buy the official training guide which is considerably more expensive.

The practice test book is too low level. The study guide has missing pages and the free online content is not accessible. Missing content

There are about 30 pages missing in at least 2 areas of the book. How can I learn with missing content.

This was a good set of books. I enjoyed how the topics were laid out and the review questions at the end of each chapter. Easy to go back and find topics or information I needed to study up on. I also liked the included online tests and flash cards. I combined this with Professor Messer's online classes. I was able to pass my exam without too much trouble.
