Freedom Fighters (PS2)

By far one of the best PS2 games EVER, I have played through this game several times over the years I owned it and still have not tired of it...I am not even sure why it is so addictive, it just is. The fact that there has never been a sequel is one of the most tragic things EVER. You play as Chris Stone, a New York plumber, who becomes a freedom fighter when New York is invaded by the USSR (Union of Socialite Soviet Republics). You must fight to take back the city, use tactics to weaken different neighbourhoods, blow bridges, down choppers, free POWS etc... Like I said, this game is just so fun that it never gets old and deserves a solid 5/5, between the shooting action, the tactics, the story...what it lacks in graphics (which are very dated) it makes up for in relatively easy controls and great gameplay. Issuing your squads of freedom fighters commands as you take back New York. Although this game has a violence factor there is no displays of blood or gore; making it a shooter game with less violence than most.

This is a very simple but fun game especially to play with friends.

i had theis wen it 1st came out god knows when it seems so long ago but its a great game none the less, you play as a member of a freedom fighter group wanting to re-take New York from the ruthless Russian soldiers and there deadly general, the story is brillaint a really fun game, and has amazing multi-player mode as well, ace game

Great retro cityscape game.

Great! But... the emphasis on the but, a brilliant game that is a favourite of mine and always will be. It has really good game play and thats the main thing, But it's a little on the short side and not enough weapons for you to use. Good idea and can't wait for a sequal! Highly recommended!

The basis for this game is a slight change in history. The cold war is still raging and Europe is now under the rule of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union invades the United States and chaos ensues. You play the part of Christopher Stone, a plumber who, along with his brother, got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time when the Soviets invaded. You break out and join an underground resistance movement against the Soviets by freeing the leader of the resistance from the Soviets and therefore become a key figure among the resistance. This game has excellent graphics and whilst it has a lot of gunplay, also requires you to think. You have to move back and forth between areas to achieve certain objectives to complete other areas, such as destroying a helipad in one area to get past a bridge in another area to stop reinforcements from getting to the helipad, and so forth. It sounds complicated, but once you start playing the game, you soon get the hang of it. The controls are fairly easy to master and the ability to command fellow freedom fighters adds a certain strategy element to the game. The game also has a nice amount of detail, such as the news desk reporting on riots in other cities and giving citizens details about new currency, etc. However, the game is not without its flaws. Some of the levels are quite difficult, requiring you to play them many times before you work out you're meant to go down a small side alley to avoid the majority of the Soviet army, whilst many are too short. The game overall is too short itself, leaving you wanting more once you've completed it. Apart from that, the game is most enjoyable and a lot of gamers will find themselves addicted to it. Definitely worth buying.

When i first saw this game i thought it looked great. I read a reveiw and they gave it 9 outa 10! 9 outa 10! can you really beleive it? fair enough it has great graphics and enough potential to be a truly amazing game, but it lacks, well...fun! graphics: these are great, so im giving them 4 stars gameplay: complete let down, great fun at the start then just frustrating and well, boring. 2 stars length: the game is too short! its longer than some games, but still, when i spend 30 quid on a game i like it to last longer than 2 days! 2 stars. sound effects: the sound effects are average, nothing special. 3 stars. overall: pants.

Looking forward to beating down this badboy with a few mates of mine. Old is gold. You know what they say. We're ready to play.

I bought this rare video game for very decent price. You'd think the vendor would take the 3 seconds it would take to make sure the disk is securely in place. I tested the case to make sure it CAN be tightly placed with no problem, and it sure can! There is damage to the disk. Small scratch all around the disc (almost like someone didn't care enough to make sure it was secure, wonder who that awesome person was) I have frequent audio bugs and disruption, the game is not unplayable, but it would be in a much finer condition, if it wasn't shipped loose in its case. Ridiculous. I mean, even a monkey can put a disc in a disc-case properly, the monkeys do it at game spot all the time. If the vendor has brain damage, i guess i would understand, but unless the vendor is mentally impaired, I don't see a excuse, just laziness.
