Ruffwear Grip Trex Boots for Dogs

I'll start off my saying what I don't like about them. All the boots are the same size, most dogs have larger front paws and smaller rear. This being said the rear boots fit perfectly, however the front are a bit small and on our first very short run around the block she developed a sore on the top of one over her toes. I went and purchased some infant socks at wal-mart and it seemed to help. With the socks it takes that much longer to put everything on. We have them marked for specific paws so hopefully they will form to her feet and stretch out.On the positive side of things, the boots have great traction and if you make the strap quite tight as it should be they do not move or come off. Sydney has been in a full sprint, in the water, and on rough terrain, not once have they fallen off or twisted. Don't be afraid to really tighten them up.The reason we got them is because Sydney developed blisters on her pads since we do lots of mountain biking. The boots have solved this issue.My advice to anyone looking to get the ruffwear boots is to buy the individual sizes for each individual paw. usually the front and rear will each be a different size. Use the measuring chart on the ruffwear website to measure your dogs paws and note if the front differ from the rear.

I had purchased a few different brands of dog boots before ordering these for my 12 year old Weimaraner who has an inoperable tumor on his spinal cord that causes him to drag his back feet. He was beginning to develop sores and scrapes on the top of his feet, especially around the top of his toenails, so I needed something that was sturdy enough to protect his feet and would stay on when we walk him (typically on concrete). I learned that if you tighten them as tight as you possibly can they are not uncomfortable for the dog and I haven't had any problems with them sliding off, even despite the fact that my dog drags them on the concrete quite a bit. I also bought the socks and always use them with the boot- not sure if this is really necessary for our situation, but I figure it helps give a little added protection from friction on his already tender feet. Also, I really thought I would have to train my dog to wear them because he has always hated his feet being touched, but he was fine with them the very first time I put them on, and much to my surprise he didn't have any trouble walking in them-- if anything they help him grip the ground better and he can move easier. Now he knows that when I pull them out it's time to take our walk and he gets excited :). I've been using them every day for about 2 1/2 months now and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a dog boot for a pet who needs protection from dragging their paws.

I have had a mix of success and trouble with these boots, but ultimately I don't trust using them on my dog after the most recent issues I've encountered. I will comment that I bought the same size shoes for front and back (measured his front paws, which were a bit bigger as is usual) and don't believe the issues were caused by the fit, but by the design.Here is how everything played out:1st Outing - This is the trial run for both myself and my dog, so expected some reluctance from both of us here. Got the boots on him and was pretty happy with how easy it was to put the boots on. Went for a walk and my dog kicked off 2 of the boots in about 3 miles of walking (he roams a bit near me in an open field area). After securing his boots they didn't come off after that again, was fairly happy with the experience overall.2nd Outing - I realized I didn't secure the straps tight enough the prior time, so strapped them down extra tight this time. Everything went great. He ran well, looked a lot more comfortable in the boots and minded them less, and didn't kick a boot the whole walk (3-5 miles). The only downside was that he kept catching his toes, stumbling, not being used to his shoes. Minor complaint, didn't concern me at the time.3rd Outing - Overall good, but found him fussing with his feet. He would stop and sit down and bite at his front paws. I noticed that the front boots had slid down a bit, so I unstrapped them to move them back up his foot and secured him in again. No issues with the rest of the walk.4th Outing - Didn't even make it a mile before he repeated the foot biting behavior and actually layed down on his side and refused to get up. This was very strange because he hardly sits still (ever... Springer Spaniel/Border Collie mix), so I looked at his front paws. On close inspection I realized that the boot sliding up meant that his dew claws were falling outside the top of the boot and were getting rammed everytime he put weight on the shoe. I took them off of him immediately and finished the rest of the walk without the shoes. If this finding wasn't bad enough he was licking his feet near his dewclaws for the next couple days, so the shoe had done a good number on him... I'm trying to protect my dog here, not hurt him... Not cool.In general the design seems alright, but I would recommend against using these for dogs that have dewclaws.

My dog suffered with damaged paws following bikejor training, meaning we could never train as often as we would like due to healing. These boots mean we can train consistently and often. They protect my dogs paws, and make the activity far more enjoyable for both of us.Please note - If your dog has dewclaws you MUST purchase vet wrap or bandages to use along with the boots. Another note - In order for the boots to remain on, they must be secured tight. I mean, real tight. Not tight enough to cause pain or stop blood flow, but there shouldn't be any gaps around the top. If there are, they WILL come off.

Correct size ordered, fitted them as tightly as possible but they still came off. If they didn’t fall off they twisted round so my dog was walking on the non grippy side, which resulted in the boot tearing. It also rubbed on her dewclaws on her front legs. Not great. Hats off to Amazon though as I got a full refund.

I was expecting something that worked much better than cheap shoes, and these simply don't. They need more shaping for front and back paws; and they really need to make the back different than the front as back paws slip down. I bought the right size, I had them done-up tight and they slip down. If they designed the rear paw to the sole was shorter and the strap was lower down, the design still might work....... If they replace the expensive Vibram sole with Latex, it would mould around the paw better and also reduce the cost as I think these are far over-proceed simply because of the Vibram sole.Having trier a few shoes now, the best you will find are the gum-rubber ones you get for a few dollars from china in Black, Red, Pink, Blue etc or alternatively, the socks that are rubber dipped at the end. To stop these socks sliding off, use Velcro straps, the kind used to tie bunches of Data Cables together in a Data Centre so your electronics store should sell these for cheap.

Purchased this item along with the socks have tried repeatedly to use these boots for my siberian huskies who run in harness (UK dryland events) but they just do not stay on. I can imagine they would be ideal if you go slow walking with your dog, or if you were protecting your dogs paws after an ailment (other cheaper boots would do this for the same price) but anything other than that I think the boots will struggle.

Really poor quality. Within 30 minutes of first time use the stitching started to fall apart.Having returned from holiday, I am now beyond Amazons 30 day return policy so left with a wasted, expensive, purchase.
