Written by the author of the bestselling CNC Programming Handbook and the recent release Fanuc CNC Custom Macros , this practical and very useful resource covers several programming subjects, including how to program cams and tapered end mills, that are virtually impossible to find anywhere. Other, more common, subjects, such as cutter radius offset and thread milling are covered in great depth. Presents detailed part programming suggestions for a variety of machining operations. Includes discussions on the following major subjects: thread milling methods, knurling, programming cams, part reversal methods, using pallet changers, applying special grooving and threading techniques, and many more. Provides numerous illustrations, charts, tables, and practical examples, allowing users to fully understand all concepts. Many methods presented can also be adapted to programming methods using a CAM system. Review: Highly recommended resource and reference for learning G-code. - Author uses a very clear and practical writing style, obviously backed by life experience of many years. This is not a book most people are going to read cover to cover, but if you have a question about a particular technique, it's probably covered in some detail in this book. I have learned very useful methods of programming and setting up parts on my mill, and will continue to learn more as time goes by. Review: A Must for CNC Programmers - Peter Smid has not only the depth of knowledge on CNC programming but also has perfected to technique of explaining it in a well organised and easily readable book. If you are learning CNC programming, or are well versed in the subject this book should be on your shelf as a tutorial or as a reference item. In fact I have purchased other books by the same author and they all have content that I have found very useful. I refer to them frequently. Easy to follow, full of detail and easy to use as a quick reference book.

CNC Programming Techniques
I've been learning CNC in fits and bumps over the last few years through reading, videos, and practice. It has been challenging without local resources. This text was exactly what I needed to break through several areas that I struggled to fully understand. It is significantly easier to digest without losing the technical detail and precision that is necessary. This is the best resource i have found to move through my midlevel learning block.

Look at the publishing date before you purchase
This book is well written, well laid out, authoritative, and interesting. However you have to wonder about any book on the subject of computer controlled processes which does not appear to have been updated since it was published in 2005! I suggest that you wait for a new edition.

Be Wary!
I have only read the first few chapters of the book and find it contains invaluable insights. However, be wary; there is a page where it states that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle always equal 360ยฐ. This is not so: they alway equal 180ยฐ. It is possible that at least 1 other error is contained elsewhere in the book. A five-star rating otherwise.
