Buy Far from the Madding Crowd (Wordsworth Classics) by Hardy, Thomas, Vance, Norman, Carabine, Dr Keith from desertcart's Fiction Books Store. Everyday low prices on a huge range of new releases and classic fiction. Review: Nope - I gave five stars because it's what I asked for: a book I needed to study for English at a cheap price. The novel itself I really didn't enjoy and it was a chore to get through; I would have to isolate myself from all things entertaining in order to force myself to read it. I could literally get distracted by my finger nails it was so incredibly dull. Hardy seems to have the same issues of distraction as he manages to describe everything and anything to do with nature for pages and pages, rather than actually get to the point and tell the story. But I can at least kinda/oughta appreciate the intelligent way in which he can describe things, but he may as well have described the texture of cat food for all I care. Yes, sheep are so fascinating, thank you for the three page reminder. The story only gets interesting when you reach the last 30 pages, but the events are so incredibly ridiculous, and part of the reason I'm using this book for my essay on 'love is a kind of madness', and also because I hate myself. If you want to be driven rather mad in spite of the title, go right ahead and buy this book, you maniac. I'm going to sit right here and stare at squirrels for a while, as my essay slowly shrivels and dies at the pain I have inflicted upon it. God I hate this book. Review: Perfection - Oh my word. I'd seen the film first and wanted to read it. Up to then, my favourite classic had been Jane Eyre, but this has overtaken that. Not only is the storyline a good one, but the language used is wonderful. I kept stopping to marvel at phrases written, both in a horrified way (how women are portrayed) and then in an amused way (how men are portrayed). I kept stopping to read aloud in delight to my suffering husband of how Thomas Hardy composed his thoughts into perfect sentences. At the very least, I am captured by how Thomas Hardy wrote a story about a headstrong young woman and didn't break her to fit the mould of the time.

A Nicely Presented Thomas Hardy Favourite at a Reasonable Price
I will not elaborate on the content of this magnificent Thomas Hardy work, as other reviewers have dealt with this subject in great depth in other reviews, but will concentrate on the presentation of the book itself. The cover is, in my personal opinion, beautifully presented, as is also the case with 'Tess of the d' Urbervilles,' also a Wordsworth Classics edition, which was purchased at the same time. Both are compact editions and were reasonably priced. These two books represent my personal favourites of Thomas Hardy's works and I have read them many times over the years. They were purchased as gifts for my father-in-law, who at ninety years of age is discovering Thomas Hardy for the first time and enjoying the experience.

but for those who appreciate a good old-fashioned read Hardy is a gift
Hardy, Thomas. Far From the Madding Crowd Not too many readers gravitate to the long Victorian novel these days, but for those who appreciate a good old-fashioned read Hardy is a gift. The action in Far from the Madding Crowd covers a long period and allows for many changes of character perspective, and this is part of the novel’s charm. Thus Bathsheba Everdene appears first as a flighty young girl and, after showing distain for Gabriel Oak’s proposal becomes an independent woman, showing strength of character, technical knowledge and sensitivity as well as business acumen. She runs a farm and speaks freely with men such as Mr Boldwood and Sergeant Troy, until ultimately she outgrows her youthful indiscretions to appreciate the value of Oak’s what we might call ‘sensible passion’ in contrast to the very opposite kinds offered by the introverted Boldwood and the lustful Troy. But even Troy develops from being a flippant seducer to one who comes to realise that the now dead Fanny Robin is more to him than Bathsheba could ever be.

I rarely write book reviews because the majority of people no longer read and write uninformed opinions. I had a beautiful hard copy version of this famous book by Thomas Hardy. However, I misplaced it and was looking for a suitable paperback edition. This version by Wordsworth Classics, which is not the best publishing house, is nonetheless satisfactory. The print is rather small and the quality of the pages is acceptable, but rather on the thin side. It does actually contains notes referencing the OED (Oxford English Dictionary) which are useful. I would recommend this book to those who actually read and have an appreciation for Thomas Hardy's work. I read his complete collection of novels in high school. Sadly, too many people have no clue about famous authors in English literature.

Wunderschöne Geschichte in Englisch.
