Watched so many reviews on this grip before I bought my Nikon zf. I have to say this is definitely a must have accessory for this camera. It makes an incredible difference to the ergonomics of it. It’s a heavy camera & this grip really fits and feels made for it. Don’t even think about it, if you own a Nikon zf, buy this grip.

I'd recommend this to any Zf owner, albeit with conditions. Like many others I've struggled with the ergonomics of the Zf due to the lack of a grip on the body. Yes it may respect the retro form factor of previous models, but it's a pain to handle with a sizeable lens attached, and it detracts from the fun of using such a fantastic camera. The Smallrig grip however overcomes any such issues. Well made and sleek looking, it fits snugly and securely to the camera body, locking into place on the Zf's underside via a 1/4-20 screw and locating pin. The grip has an Arca Swiss compatible mount along the bottom, and the inclusion of three 1/4-20 holes provides alternative mounting options. The battery compartment and SD card slot are fully accessible, and the grip's silicone exterior is identically patterned to blend in with the Zf's body. Anyone who wasn't familiar with the Zf wouldn't know that the grip is a separate component if you gave them the camera. I've deducted a star however because this grip only provides mounting options for the camera in landscape orientation; if you want to capture images in portrait orientation then you need to either rotate your ball head 90 degrees or use the camera handheld. You could also attach a L-bracket to the grip which I did for a time, but it turned the camera into a Frankenstein's monster-type setup which looked ridiculous. For many photographers this may not be a problem and they'd be happy to live with these compromises, but for me as a landscape photographer I ended up replacing the Smallrig grip with a Neewer half cage which overcame this issue (albeit with a little modification). It's a shame that you have to buy such an add-on in the first place to enjoy this camera, and the price isn't exactly pennies either, but it's well made and reliable as all Smallrig products are. I use the grip when I'm out without my tripod, and if you're happy to use the Zf handheld or exclusively in landscape orientation then it'll live on your camera forever.

Definitely the most grippy of all the hand grips for ZF (have tried most). Blends well with the black aesthetics of the camera and provides enough grip even with larger lenses (24-120 & 105mm) attached. I do prefer the aesthetic of the Neewer CA079 grip, however. If there was one improvement it would be to add a thumb rest to the rear of the grip.

A perfect partner for the Nikon Z 8 this grip not only provides a firm and secure mount, with quick release, to any compatible Arca-Swiss type dovetail clamp, its also adds useful support when holding the camera in your hands. It is well engineered, has a robust construction and allows easy access to all the external ports and battery chamber of the camera. Given its highly competitive price it begs the question why anyone would consider a similar product from the likes of Really Right Stuff, or Kirk Photo.

Über das Handling der Nikon Zf scheiden sich die Geister. Speziell bei großen Objektiven vermissen viele einen "richtigen" Griff, um die Kamera stabil und sicher in der Hand zu halten. Als Antwort darauf gibt es u.a. 3rd-Party Griffe wie diesen hier von Smallrig, welcher zum Launch der Zf den Erstkäufern 2023 kostenlos mitgegeben wurde. Da ich erst Anfang 2025 die Zf erworben habe und damit nicht in den Genuss der kostenlosen Beigabe kam, habe ich mich unter den verfügbaren Griffen umgesehen und mich letztlich für den Smallrig-Griff entschieden. Für meine mittelgroßen Hände ist die Zf ohne Griff bei kleineren Objektiven noch ganz gut zu halten, beim Z 24-120 f4 ist das aber dann bereits grenzwertig. Mit dem Griff hingegen liegt die Zf für mich mit allen Objektiven, die ich besitze, nun nahezu perfekt in der Hand. Der Smallrig-Griff fühlt sich hochwertig an und ist fest - und damit sicher - zu montieren. Die Gummierung gibt Halt - und zwar m.E. mehr, als die Gummierung der festverbauten Griffe anderer Z-Kameras. Als Vergleich genommen habe ich die Z 30, deren Griff zwar nicht in Form, aber in Bezug auf die Größe dem Smallrig-Griff relativ nahe kommt. Der Griff der Z 30 hat allerdings noch etwas mehr Tiefe (da der Body der Zf "dicker" ist als der der Z 30), aber ich finde das "Griffgefühl" sehr ähnlich. Einfach mal eine Z 30 in die Hand nehmen. Wem das "Griffgefühl" passt, der sollte auch mit der Zf samt Smallrig-Griff keine Probleme haben. Deutlich größer ist beispielsweise der Griff der Z 8, der für mich quasi der Benchmark ist (speziell mit größeren Objektiven). Erstaunlicherweise fühlt sich für mich die Zf mit dem Smallrig-Griff in der Hand fast besser an als die Z 8, die ich bisher als nahezu perfekt empfand. Letztlich kommt es wahrscheinlich auf die Handgröße an. Für kleine bis mittelgroße Hände denke ich, dass der Griff die perfekte Ergänzung zur Zf darstellt. Wer sehr große Hände hat, für den könnte die Kombination vielleicht etwas zu klein ausfallen. Ob der Griff für einen nun "passt" oder nicht, ist individuell verschieden. Für mich passt es. Die eher objektiven Kriterien wie Verarbeitungsqualität sind m.E. sehr gut, der Preis ist angemessen. Ein kleiner Nachteil: Akku und Speicherkarten sind zwar auch mit montiertem Griff gut erreichbar, aber dennoch lässt sich meine SD-Karte dadurch etwas schwieriger entnehmen (wenn man die Fingernägel gerade ultra-kurz geschnitten hat - ein paar Tage danach war das dann kein Problem mehr). Zwei Hinweise noch: 1. Der Handgriff ist ARCA-SWISS kompatibel und damit direkt verwendbar auf entsprechenden Stativen. 2. Der Handgriff hat auf Höhe des Suchers freie Gewinde, so dass ich meine Peak Design Standard Plate (für den Capture Clip V3) problemlos anbringen konnte.

With this grip, the Nikon Zf is easy to hold, even with larger lenses like the 50mm f/1.8 S. The fit is very precise and the material nicely matches the exterior of my (black) Zf. Of course, its adds some weight, but not much and it is totally worth it.

Después de dudar entre diversos Grips, decidí comprar el de Small Rig y no me equivoqué, és perfecto, tiene muy buen agarre y el tacto de silicona es realmente bueno. Buena compra y me llegó muy rápido!

Perfect fit for a Nikon Z F. Overseas market (i.e. Australia) cannot get the official grip so this is the 2nd best. A must have for any Z F shooters which cost 1/3 of the official ones.
