The Rabbit Listened

Where to start with this perfect picture book that I am certain will become a staple of children's literature? It is a simple, beautiful fable we can all relate to (one little detail that I love is that the author keeps Taylor completely gender-neutral- Taylor is a character who stands for all of us!) about how we process loss and disappointment. The different animals suggest different ways to solve Taylor's problem, to no avail- until the rabbit just sits with Taylor and listens. I think this book is not only a good read for children who are themselves undergoing a loss (it seems to frequently be recommended as a book to address death and dying) but it's also a great, easy lesson in how to be a good friend to others. The simplicity of the narrative and illustrations belies a deep, thoughtful emotional complexity. My two year old loves this book. So do her grandparents. This one should be on every shelf.

Wow, this is a great book! The illustrations are sweet and the lesson taught is something we all need, adults and children. This story helps children and adults see the process our human minds go through when something disappointing happens. This story will help children understand others when they are having a hard time, it will also help them understand their own feelings. And I love the bunny, the bunny did just what my pet bunnies do, it listened. I would recommend this book to everyone from toddler to adult.

This book is amazing. It’s one of our favorites and we’ve also bought a specific gift for someone also. I was the author had a lot more. I have looked and this one Is by far one of our favorites.

Such a sweet book with such a lovely message. I am an elementary school counselor and I use this book in all of my “Meet the Counselor” lessons. The kids love it!

This book is must for your child's library. It is a fun read and for new readers it is spot on. My grandson, who is a first grader, loves it. He is now reading to his cousin who is a preschooler. I am purchasing this book again for my other niece for her to have in her book collection. Also, it is the book I will be sharing with a preschool class in the spring. C.Palm

Such a great story about empathy and the importance of listening. I first ordered this to read to the students I work with at school as an elementary school counselor, but I am also excited to read this to my own child. A sweet story with a powerful message!

An excellent book for Both children and adults, wise in it's message and simplicity, we have now bought this for ourselves and others after getting it out the library originally. The sentences/ words are simple, but the message is powerful and beautifully told.
