The models are confusing....i have a surface pro model 1796 ... will this work?

no it is not for a surface pro-it is for a surface book which is like a lan actual laptop that you can detach it from the keyboard, not like the surface pro which is a tablet with a flimsier keyboard attachment.

Doesn't this cover the speakers of the surface laptop?

The speakers are under the keyboard, so I suppose this would cover them but it doesn’t affect the sound in any way I have noticed.
