I hadn't noticed when ordering that this is 4-core cable, not 3. 4-core is designed for things such as smoke alarms where you need the usual 3, plus an extra "signal" cable so devices can communicate, however you couldn't use this for a fixed mains power system because it's the wrong type of cable. I mean you can use it instead of 3-core for things requiring less than 11A (max current for 0.5mm cable) - I recommend limiting to a 5A plug. But it's wasteful to do so - in fact there are very few applications that require THIS type of cable.
