The description says the ink contains cadmium and lead, which are both toxic. Is this accurate?

Mike R, obviously you missed this The ink contains many compounds, including melanin, enzymes, polysaccharides, catecholamines (hormones), metals like cadmium, lead, and copper, as well as amino acids, such as glutamate, taurine, alanine, leucine, and aspartic acid

Does this need to be refrigerated prior to opening or after?

Refrigerate after opening. For longer periods, freeze. I've had mine for a few years in the freezer and used it last night. It's still good.

Would it be good in shin black ramen?

Never tried it with Japanese ramen but I would think yes. I can imagine it with miso and tofu.

Genuine squid ink, high quality, and great packaging

Awesome stuff! Great packaging - comes wrapped in bubble wrap to protect the glass. It could be a SERIOUS problem if there was a leak as you’d get ink everywhere. With this packaging I wouldn’t worry about that. So that was a nice touch. The product is awesome. Clean, genuine, and a little goes a long long way. Delicious flavor, super deep black, and makes the right dish look incredible. I used it to make genuine Spanish squid ink paella and it took me back to my time in Barcelona!
