My favorite Pastry Mat
As someone who loves baking, having the right tools makes all the difference — and the Silpat Pastry Mat has easily become my favorite and most-used baking essential. First off, the quality is top-notch. It’s thick, sturdy, and feels premium the moment you lay it down. The size is generous, giving me plenty of space to comfortably roll out pie crusts, bread dough, and cookie batches without feeling cramped. Unlike other pastry mats that shift around or bunch up, the Silpat stays flat and steady, making the process smoother and less frustrating. I’ll admit — the price initially gave me pause. But after using it consistently, I can confidently say it’s worth every penny. It holds up beautifully over time, resists wear and tear, and has made my baking sessions so much easier and cleaner. If you bake regularly and want a mat that feels like a professional tool (and lasts like one), I can’t recommend the Silpat Pastry Mat enough. It’s a game changer.

Durable, Dependable, Additional Preparation Use
I’ve purchased six Silpat mats across full, half, and quarter sheet sizes, and they’ve become indispensable across baking, roasting, and prep. Heat distribution is even and consistent, and cleanup is simple—just rinse and air dry. They perform reliably at high oven temps without warping or sticking. Usage Notes: This is an excellent example of more precise baking for low-cost. The workstation mat provides each dimension in a clear to read fashion, is easy to use and clean, and can be used in the oven (if you have an oven large enough). On occasion I'll use the workstation mat for general preparation and countertop protection, but not for cutting. Lays flat every time, rolls up with the Silpat band or placed in drawer. Does protect countertop surfaces generally, but cleanup of surface after removal is required. Bottom Line: Exceptional for preparation and rolling to accurate dimensions, easy to clean, and effective for general kitchen use—just avoid sharp tools and verify sizing. Once you do, it’s likely you’ll end up owning several as well.

Expensive, but high quality and worth it. Lays flat, easy to clean.
Excellent quality mat for rolling out dough or pastry. I used to have a small Silpat and leant it to someone and never got it back. They are expensive, so in the meantime, I bought a cheap plastic one at a big box store that just didn't cut it as it wouldn't stay flat. I finally bit the bullet and bought myself another Silpat, this time a larger one that fits perfectly on my counter. (Should have done that to begin with!) My only issue is it was a bit tricky getting it out of the plastic tube/box it arrived in. I decided I wouldn't store the Silpat in the box and threw it away. Instead, I roll it up, secure it with twine and store it in a kitchen drawer. It's really easy to clean. I highly recommend it.

Roul' Pat mat provides the workspace we need
I hesitated buying Silpat's Roul' Pat mat even after the high school culinary teacher highly recommended it. Please be aware that the Roul' Pat is not intended to be used in the oven. It is for work space only. The regular Silpat is intended for use in the oven, similar to parchment paper. The mat is fiberglass encased in silicone. "What if the fiberglass ends up in the food?" was my main thought. We needed a mat to create a consistent workspace within reach of my very young aspiring pastry chef. With assurances that it is used in many professional kitchens, I took the leap and bought one. The directions are clear that the mat should be stored either flat or rolled loosely in its original box. It is also clear that no cutting should be done on this mat - no knives, no cookie/biscuit cutters with a sharp edge. I am careful not to bend the mat sharply when I wash it or lay it out to dry, which can be a little challenging. It washes off easily with a sponge and soapy water. I hang ours over the back of a chair to dry. At 23 x 15 inches, it has been plenty big for rolling out bread, pie crust (size of circle is printed on mat), and other doughs. The size was a little tight for rolling out a double-recipe of cinnamon roll dough which required 24 inches. It does not slide around on the table when rolling is happening. We have used it about 6 times, and there is no sign of wear. The company says it can be used up to 2000 times safely. That's a lot of baking! It provides the workspace we need.

Fantastic for What It Is
I don't like buying junk, so even though the dimensions of this Roul' Pat aren't exactly what I would have preferred, I bought it because it's made in France and was likely of better quality than other available options manufactured in, shall we say?, the Far East. This really is a sturdy mat and although the size is probably a bit unwieldy, even for my large farmhouse sink, it cleans up nicely. It's fantastic for working with bread dough because even though I don't hand-knead mine, it's nice to fold and shape loaves on a non-stick surface that doesn't shift around. Bear in mind that this is NOT a baking mat--this is solely for the purpose of working with dough and candy. Also bear in mind that you need to be very careful using a bench knife because you could end up slicing the mat. The only reason I docked a star is because it doesn't ship in a storage tube, which, at this price, is inexcusable. Good thing I ordered storage bands (for it and a smaller Roul' Pat that I ordered), otherwise I'd have to deal with its unrolling in storage. At least the band will keep it contained, albeit not protected. Bottom line: the Roul' Pat is well worth the price if you're planning on making bread and want to keep things easy and neat. Just be aware that you really ought to include one of these with your purchase: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0788BWSWH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 .

If you have the right tools, the job will be easier. This is true of the Silpat pastry mat. I had any easy time rolling the pastry and getting it off of the pastry mat onto the pie plate.
