After a Month of daily Use.........
We installed this encoder into a machine shop machine over a month ago. We use this machine 5 days a week and as of this morning........ it is operating exactly as needed. Highly recommended.

Good valued encoder for basic use/prototyping
I'm happy overall with this encoder. you can certainly miss pulses, but starting with the wire out a bit and going slow helps (perfect for my needs). This should be treated as a regular-calibration encoder anyway, since it's incremental. one note: it says 0.1mm on the website but 0.15 on the side of my encoder. it *looks* like 0.1mm is the accurate value. I used this on a microcontroller and programmed it counting all transitions, which gave me a 4x quadrature decoding problem (4 times as far) in case anyone else runs into it. easy enough to just divide your distance (0.1mm) by 4 if this is happening to you. I also dropped this encoder (in housing) a couple times from about 6 feet and it didn't show any issues. The wire snapped in quickly a few times as well. Again, no issues after re-calibrating my zero point (it did not hit every pulse at a fast pace back in).

Great way to measure linear movement
Translates linear motion into a rotary motion that generates pulses to measure position. Great for process automation.

Interesting sensor
Great way to measure linear motion without having to rely on gear coupling or friction rollers. This encoder that measures the length of a flexible wire as it is extended and withdrawn. Quadrature encoding is easily done with an Arduino or ESP32 to determine precise positioning. A very handy tool.

Not accurate at all
I haven't even hooked this up to test it and I can tell you it is not going to give an accurate measurement. I pulled the draw line out about 2/3rds of the way and let it wind back in. Then when I turned it in my hand the spool inside wound more slack up even though the string was all the way pulled in. It is not going to give an accurate measurement because of that. It doing that is repeatable so it wasn't a one time and done thing. Every time I pull the line out and let it wind back in and just give it a tap with my finger and I can feel and also hear it wind up more slack even tho it has pulled the line all the way in.
