Vertical extension is a great idea. This one is well made with clickable switches, each with its own LED to show if it is on or off. However, if there is an adjacent plug, do be careful that it does not interfere with the topmost switch.

A bit odd but works.
Having an extension plug at this orientation is a bit unusual and I'm sure it will help out if you have a single socket in an awkward place or can't fit some PSU in with other plugs. The issue I had was with the on/off switches on the side. They are not vwey positive in operation and one even stuck when I tried to use it. The £16 asking price would be justified if this was of sturdier construction, had surge protection, the switches were better or just had a couple of USB sockets on the top.
