S SATC Diamond Sharpening Stone 2 Side Grit 150/600 Diamond Plate Honing Stone 8-inch Hone Sharpener

This is for the 150/600 plate; I got it to flatten the backs of some plane irons and chisels. I fully expected this to be a couple of thin plates stuck with spray adhesive to a piece of 3/8" aluminum plate or something similar, and hey, that was going to be totally fine. It's $23. Instead, it appears to be a solid chunk of 8" x 2.75" x 3/8" steel, machined as flat as I need it to be (again, it's $23 so I am not expecting to use this as a machinists' reference; there is a very slight hollow on the 600 side of mine.) with the cutting material embedded directly in the surface of the steel. It is heavy. In my very brief testing, both sides cut plenty fast. A chisel sharpened up to 600 is honestly pretty sharp. Yes, it's fun and useful to make mirror finishes on cutters. You can make lovely shavings at 600. Are there better sharpening systems out there? Absolutely! But if you are reading the reviews on this, I bet that either you don't need a better quality sharpener right now, or that you have something better and are thinking of this as a "I don't want to risk getting something gross nasty on my good stones" option. It's good in either case. Will it last forever? I don't know. I don't care. It is $23. For reference, a similar setup from Eze-Lap would run about $185. This thing also came with little silicone rubber end caps that provide some grip if you don't want to mount it in a sharpening board. (Or if you're moving it, I suppose they'd protect it if you drop it.) Realistically, this is probably flatter and more durable than virtually anything you could get a hundred years ago, and craftspeople then made their tools wicked sharp and crafted awesome things with them. If you're on the fence, get this plate and practice sharpening. If you hate it, you spent $23.

I’m sure the similar product selling for $248 is probably better in some way, though that $ buys a lot of these excellent plates. 150/600 is sweet for flattening everything I own (which is approximately one of everything), minimal wear in after several flattenings, most importantly its dead flat to the degree I’m able to measure. 10/10, buying another just because. Oh, I did hog off some metal on a chisel setting a new bevel and it did its job beautifully. It’s unbelievably coarse and I’m here for it. Note: I have no idea how accurate the “grit” claims are and don’t care.

Great coarse stone $20 and works fast

They each have a thin closed cell rubber backing so they will be much more likely to stay put during use. They are well made and i feel i got my money's worth.

You basically get one single sided stone here. The 600 grit side has like 10% diamond coverage. It’s basically useless. 1 star for the 150 side It has diamonds that’s for sure. Don’t know how long they’ll last though. 1 star for price. edit: I might have rushed making a judgement. 600 side does in fact has diamonds (checked under microscope) and successfully created a burr my kitchen knife. the stone is small though and not sure how the diamonds will hold up. However the pattern on the stone makes it nearly impossible to get a clean apex due to the ridges. The edge tends to fall into those gaps and bump into the next diamond cluster effectively micro-chipping the blade. This is best used as a flattening stone with water although I don’t know how resistant to rust it will be.

These plates aren't too bad, as long as you dont need them to be dead flat, because they're not. I bought three, and all three aren't flat one one side. The other side is dead flat. Its almost as if they intended to put abrasives on one side, but then decided to make them double sided without flattening the other side. These are made by DMD. They do cut well and so far, are holding up. I cant say how long they'll last though as I haven't used them that long. All three of mine also have bad grit contamination on the finer side, making it useless for refining. You basically have two coarse stones, with one side convexed. I also own a Sharpal double sided plate, id recommend it over these if you can spend another $30. It is perfectly flat with zero contamination. With all that said, they are fine for practicing sharpening technique and grinding on kitchen knives and such.

Perfectly flat and quick material removal. It's heavy too, and the weight combined with the rubber base provides great stability.
