D-Link DWP-157 3G Modem Data Card (White)

Good product

This Modem I try to use with BSNL. pros: It is a good product on technical side. It support voice call too. You can receive and make call while surfing internet if your laptop has a mic and speaker. Good speed (It have a high speed modem+) if it is stable with good signal strength. It has a micro SD slot to for storage. Cons: It keep changes 3G to 2G if the signal strength is low. This also happens when you are between border of two towers from same service provider with different frequencies. It may not work with USB(1meter) extension cable. I tried it to get a good reception. Unfortunately I got a bad piece and I returned it.

I have purchased it. The product is good but it is working with only BSNL & Airtel Sim but not with Aircel Sim. It has software problem. Some times it shows message of hardware failure while trying to connect to internet.

Very Good product

This 3-G Modem clearly says that it supports linux but I could not sucesfully run the linux install script that was provided by DLink. When I contacted the DLink customer service in India I got areally nonsense reply. With such technical support I doubt I will ever buy a Dlink product in future. Please see my email and response from the company below. It's very strange that after the first email I send them, where I clearly stated that I use an Ubuntu 14.04 installation, in the reply to the second email, where I gave them the Kernel version that I use, they rolled back a answer which didn't made any sense. The onliner reply from the "technical support" was : "We would like to inform you that Ubuntu/Linux is an open source operating system so you need to check with your OS support regarding the installation". What is even funny is that give this reply as a "solution". ------------------------------------ My first email: Hi, I have trouble to install the dlink 3G-modem (DWP-157 H/W Ver.: C1 F/WVer: V3.0.1IN) in ubuntu 14.04. I have tried according to the instructions in the readme file at the folder LinuxModemShell. But, the modem is still not recognized. There were several errors when running the second excecutable :bin/RemoveModemManager.sh. Pros: 1) Can be turned into a WiFi hotspot by connecting it to a D-Link 2750U modem-cum-router. Might not be compatible with other routers, though. 2) Works well even when you connect it to a 5 meter USB extension cable. I've tied the dongle to our upper floor's window grill. No issues since ~3 months. Cons: 1) It doesn't catch signals as strongly as my Moto G4 Plus: -85 dBm on dongle vs -72 dBm on phone (the lower the better), when kept at the exact same location. And yes, I've tested this more than 4 times. This means the download/upload speed from the dongle is slightly less. 2) It's not a 4G dongle, but then I guess those are not available in this price range (I'd purchased it for ₹700.)

"My D-Link DWP 157 3G Data Card doesnt work on pc . I have reliance 3g sim . My pc is p4 (3ghz) , 2gb ram , usb 2.0 port . I checked my dongle in 2 other pcs ,, same problem exists . But worked well in laptop which has dual core processor . What's the reason ...........Are these dongles only supports laptops ........ one more thing - when insert the sim in dongle n plug it into pc. Driver doen't load , N when unplug the dongle n remove the sim frm dongle n reinsert the dongle ,, the driver loads properly .And in device manager the usb port of dongle driver shows driver loads properly. Again when unpluged the dongle n reinsert the sim into dongle n plug back the dongle into pc. dongle doesn't work . And device manager shows error '' yellow sign '' on usb dongle driver ( error code 10) . wats the reason ............. SAME DONGLE WORKS WELL ON LAPTOP BUT NOT WORKED ON PC.

This is an absolute awesome product for this price range. I read so many reviews here and took a chance. It is working all fine. Firstly for those who are in doubt to by it, I used the net setter with 3 sims bsnl idea and DoCoMo. I was going to return the product when used in bsnl and idea because it was not giving good speed. Then I tried it with DoCoMo 3g sim. I am getting good speeds here in Kerala. And got D LInk cloud router to go with it. It has turned out to be my portable WiFi.
