Columbia Men's Watertight II Rain Jacket

I purchased this Columbia Watertight Rain Jacket in Mountain Blue for my brother-in-law, and it has been an excellent choice. For reference, he’s 5’8”, 140 pounds, and after reading other reviews that mentioned the jacket runs a bit large, we ordered a size Small. It fits him perfectly, so I’d recommend considering sizing down if you’re between sizes. The quality is outstanding, especially for the price. It’s lightweight, comfortable, and easy to pack, making it perfect to keep in the car or take on trips. It works great as both a rain jacket and a windbreaker, providing excellent protection from wind and Florida’s unpredictable rainy weather without feeling heavy or overly warm. The mesh lining helps keep air circulating, so it stays comfortable and doesn’t develop that hot, sweaty feeling while still keeping you dry. The adjustable hook-and-loop cuffs, lining, drawcord hem, zippered hand pockets, and storm flap over the zipper are thoughtful features that improve both comfort and weather protection. The length is just right, the fabric feels durable, and the fit is comfortable without being bulky. It’s perfect for walking the dog, running errands, or any outdoor activity during Florida’s rainy season. The fabric sheds light and moderate rain well, and the seams and zipper flaps help keep water from sneaking in through the front. It is not insulated, which is a positive if you want flexibility. On cooler days I add a fleece or hoodie underneath; on warmer rainy days the shell alone is enough. Fit is practical rather than fashion focused. The cut allows a mid layer without feeling tight, and the hem and cuffs can be adjusted so wind does not blow up the sleeves or bottom. The hood offers decent coverage and cinches down well enough that it stays in place when you turn your head. As always with clothing, though, this is only an opinion, not objective truth, since body shapes and preferences vary a lot. What I appreciate most is how packable the jacket is. It folds into a small bundle that fits easily in a backpack or car compartment, so it is an easy “just in case” layer for travel or errands. The fabric is a bit crinkly, which is typical for this type of rain shell, but it has held up as expected so far without noticeable wear. Pockets are simple but useful for keys, phone, or wallet when you are caught in a shower. Looks great. It’s a nice navy blue and meets Columbia quality standards. The zipper works great. The fit is good, it’s lightweight and comfortable and it’s roomy enough to wear over a quarter zip sweater and breathable enough to keep you from getting too sweaty. The value for the price is excellent.

If you are like me and you have been disappointed by rainjackets that don't actually block the rain from coming through, you can stop here. The Watertight Jacket does what it is supposed to do. I work outside for several hours everyday in rainy Western Washington and I have tested it. Zero water got through to my arms or shoulders in heavy rain. It beads up and runs off just like it would a rubber jacket. No soaking in, no wetting out. The mesh is a very important feature as it keeps the jacket from touching your skin and I think that keeps you drier and makes up for the lack of "breathability"- which I'm learning means "not waterproof". So it stays comfortable and it's steamy inside. The material is pliant and as thin as a windbreaker and not stiff. The hood covers my huge head and has a little brim to keep the rain off my face. It's still easy to see around. The jacket runs big, as the large is almost too big for my 5"10, 200lb frame. That will help when I need to wear a sweater underneath. There are only two pockets. That's the only downside. After trying several similar jackets and being very frustrated (and wet and cold at work) I finally found what I'm looking for; a lightweight jacket that is fully waterproof.

I used to be a big guy 240lbs plus, & XXL was my fit. I now weigh 216-220lbs tops at a height of 5'11" & figured XL would surely fit- boy was I wrong! They run big. Large fit perfect! Quality lightweight jacket guaranteed to keep you dry, and ideal for warmer climates. Very appreciative with the no hassle return, and lightning fast turnaround. They got me the right size, and boy am I glad I got the Large/Tall(call it a hunch)! If your anything over 5'10" do yourself a favor, get the tall. Still looks great, and keeps the fanny dry! Did I mention how well the hoodie covers, and looks? Also the Velcro straps on cuffs a keeper vs. elastic crap. Very happy!

Fits true to size, 6'-3" 230 lbs, I ordered XXL so I could put a average fleece jacket under it. This jacket has all the basic features necessary for a quality jacket plus a hood deep enough to keep the rain dripping off of it from dropping on your face. The secret to keeping jackets like this in great shape is NEVER machine wash. Put it on, go in the shower, warm not warmer/hot. Most stuff will rinse off, if not a mild soap will work. HANG DRY NEVER EVER PUT THIS IN A DRYER. The material will survive but it comprises the quality of water repellency and it absolutely destroys the stitching and seams water repellency. This a jacket that is durable as long as you take care of it properly. My last one lasted 8 years till I lost it.

Truly waterproof. Wears great. Well made throughout, including zippers. I can’t recommend unless make it through Winter in CT with just this and a thin down under layer. It has some bulk so not great for warm weather and maybe a bit bulky for backpacking. But great for wet and or cold weather 4-5 months per year in Southern New England

I had purchased this jacket for my trip to Scotland. The hood is large enough to cover your entire head. It isn’t heavy so it will fit in tour backpack easily. The jacket takes a few minutes to dry. I will use ghis in my many travels. Material is not cheap flimsy, it feels sturdy.

Product quality & in-seam sewing is pretty good. Can fully cover oneself with ease. However, need to test out the water-proofing in heavy rain.
