So far this machine is 5 stars for me because it looks likes it's going to solve what's become an unsustainable problem with sustainability. *Stands up to address the crowd* "My name is WLP and I am a Compostaholic". I used to live on 5 acres and always had a nice big ol' pile of compost going. Now I live in an apartment with a balcony and am relegated to indoor/outdoor container gardening. I have tried various methods to keep up with my food scraps including creating compost in a 5-gal. bucket with drilled holes at the bottom/bottom sides, setting it partially inside soil within a large grow bag, and adding a ziptied hardware cloth tube down the middle + coming out of the top of a cut lid. I would layer wood shavings on top to contain the smell as I once had a raccoon climb up to my 2nd floor. HOWEVER, with my ongoing food as medicine approach (due to crappy U.S. healthcare), I simply generate way too many scraps. I only compost vegs and the like, no meats/bones. It's come to the point where I've had to resort to putting my excess scraps in gallon ziplocs in the freezer and fridge. I have been increasingly running low on room in both and had to find a solution ASAP. Came across these countertop food waste processing machines by chance and tried to find the biggest capacity machine for the lowest price since I'm not a rich one. I was tracking pricing and this unit came up for 2 bills so I jumped on it. You'll notice a lot of these machines look the same with just a different branded name. The reviews I read on Amz were hit or miss across the board, but since my issues were getting out of hand I had to take a chance. Yo, I was so impressed with the results of my 1st batch! Wow! I had a bunch of unbagged random stuff sitting on my counter and just filled the inside metal container to about an inch from the rim with that stuff. The specs indicate a recommended fill weight of 400-800 grams. I may or may not have overfilled it in weight on that 1st go. I've included some pics and you will see the machine reduced the fresh 1st scrap scraps to around 20-25% of the bin. I was amazed, truly. I am collecting the done waste in a 5-gal. bucket (see pic) and it looks like I should be able to clear my fridge and still be within capacity of that bucket. I have one of those Amazon Basics food scales and weighed the next upcoming scrap zip bags I had sitting on the counter in collection mode. Took pics of those and you will see that you should not underestimate the weight of your food waste. The bag that made my 2nd batch came in at 1344 grams and it was at the bag fill line. I am wondering now if the people who had problems with their machines were (consistently) overfilling them in weight. I got my 2nd batch filled to exactly 800 grams in the machine. It was mostly avocado + lemon skins. I added some more stuff to one of the 2 bags left and did a weight measurement. They are both not at the fill line and still come up overweight. These have a lot of expired oatmeal and flax meal. Get yourself a food scale if you don't have one, seriously. I don't eat a lot of meat, but I still won't be using my machine to process chicken bones and such. I do cut up things like my toilet paper tubes + compostable parchment into small pieces. I suppose if you really want to get ambitious you can do the same to the food scraps with a knife or by chucking stuff into a food processor to maybe add to your unit's life. I dunno. I'm personally not that ambitious either way. NOISE: Moderate to my ears. My old-a$$ dishwasher is actually WAY louder and I listen to metal so it's tolerable to me. The max fill auto cycle runs 6 hours, so take that into consideration on what your ears can take. MAKING COMPOST: The instructions direct you to add the dried stuff back into the machine with some water + yeast. I caught that different companies sell compost activator products if you didn't want to go that route. I personally don't want to add more cleaning to my life, so I probably won't. Dealing w/ the dried stuff is easier. FOOTPRINT: Substantial, but still less than a small microwave. It's the biggest thing I have on my counter. ONGOING: Comes with a big bag of pelleted charcoal to quell odors that you will need to replace every 3 mos. There is an indicator light for that, but I also used my phone calendar to remind me. FINAL: If this machine ends up lasting me 6-12 months, I will consider it a win. I never have high expectations with these things. It's definitely going to be in production mode daily probably for at least a month straight tackling my backlog and considering how much new food waste I produce in a household of 3 people. HTH!

Excellent food scraps are now food for my garden

Composter worked for 6 months, then auger would not turn due to mechanical failure. Seller will not respond to requests for help, despite one year warranty promising replacement or refund.

Easy to use and maintain. I also like the texture of the composte. This model is perfect size for me but bigger families may want a larger capacity model.

I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my unit... it makes a loud clunking noise nearly continuously while grinding (which it does NOT do very well). I've tried various balances of food and nothing seems to work very well -- even adding water -- never results like others have reported. Often winds up with a slimey mess. Even small chunks of food (like a bread crust) seem to cause it to be worse and jam. It does get a star back for odor control - which it seems to do quite well. Doesn't seem worth it unless it works a lot better than mine does.

I was skeptical at first, but this works perfect. Shipping was on time, next day and price was right. I wanted to compost all of my kitchen waste into compost, because I raise butterflies and needed this to compost my host plants and nectar plants. The first time I used it I set it, I added the water and yeast. The composter did exactly what it was supposed to do. What I didn't understand was that this compost would be damp. I stored it in a bucket but because of not using it in a timely manner, it molded. I reread the directions and did the single treatment and the compost is perfect for what I want. It is dry and I can mix it in with the potting soil. I would recommend this kitchen composter to anyone who is tired of putting kitchen wastes in the garbage disposal. Doing that is pouring money down the drain.

Excellent product. Works well, easy to clean and gives us immediately usable compost.

Worked great for a while but now the grinding blades no longer work so it’s a big mess and there is not parts available to fix the issue
