Stunning piece of technology
This is a great piece of kit. It has all the apps you can get on your firestick (which is pretty much every app). It's so light in weight you can carry it to whatever room you want it in with ease. It's just as easy to use as your firestick and signing into your amazon account brings up everything you had on it. The picture and sound quality is amazing and so smooth it's like being at the cinema when watching a movie. The remote control is bigger than the firestick one, which is good because I kept losing the firestick one. For a tv this quality the price is amazing

Excellent value
This tv is amazing value for money! Picture quality is excellent, it’s very bright and clear, it’s extremely easy to setup. Has great Sound quality and is all round a very good tv. Everything works brilliantly including wifi which is quick and smooth. I’m surprised it’s possible to get a tv of this quality for a promotional price of *£289, now it’s on another promotion and it’s even cheaper at £250. *I have owned my tv for about 6 months (or more) It has been absolutely faultless. Next time I need something similar Oi will not bother going anywhere else.

Inexpensive, reasonable functionality, a good bedroom set.
As with any flat screen television, *always* use a soundbar. They're inexpensive and will make a big difference to your viewing. The speakers on flat screen televisions are not capable of producing enough dynamic range, even for live television programmes. The screen: Acceptable resolution, but viewing angles are poor. If you will be viewing further than 30 degrees from centre, you may want to look elsewhere. The brightness is average and if you leave a black screen on, the backlight will leak from the corners. Turning the brightness down means the picture is even darker. This may be fine for a bedroom, but if it's near a window, you may need to think again. Don't expect the best colour representation or gamma correction at this price point, but as a second set, to watch live-linear shows like The Chase or the News, it's acceptable. The human brain adjusts to image quality and you won't notice the shortfall for long. Operating system: is Fire TV and it's the version before Amazon introduced its new locked-down iteration, which means you can install nearly anything without problems. You can't, however, plug-in a USB webcam and use it for Alexa Calling. Freely is the main reason for buying this set. With the FireTV functionality, it is a capable set and because Freely is streaming, the picture fidelity is much better than from DSAT or UHF. Even the low-quality channels (shopping/religious/shouty-news) have an acceptable viewing quality. Freely does well to curate all the things you like to watch and there's no need for a recording device because you can simply use the EPG calendar and go directly to what you need to see. Because it's a Fire TV, you also get the other useful functionality. Remote control: is fine, but makes very loud 'click' sounds. I simply paired the set with a FireTV Pro remote, which is a much better user experience. Overall: Inexpensive, the screen is not great, but acceptable in certain circumstances.

Underwhelming
Underwhelming Bought this TCL TV about a week ago and, at first glance, it looks like a bargain. You get a large, bright screen for a very reasonable price, and for general viewing it does a good job. Streaming apps, live TV, and Plex all run smoothly, and the picture quality is perfectly decent for everyday use. However, once you start using external devices, the issues begin to show. I’ve had repeated black screen dropouts when gaming on Xbox – the signal cuts out briefly and then returns. It’s intermittent but happens often enough to be frustrating, especially for the kids. I also had a mini PC connected originally, which I’ve since had to remove completely because of similar stability issues. The TV just didn’t handle it reliably. That suggests the problem isn’t a single device, but how the TV manages HDMI inputs and signal switching (particularly with higher bandwidth features like 4K/HDR). I’ve tried adjusting settings (disabling HDR, tweaking HDMI modes, etc.), which helps a bit, but doesn’t fully solve the problem. For a modern TV that advertises these capabilities, that’s disappointing. So overall: Great value for basic TV and streaming Big screen, decent picture for the price Struggles with external devices (Xbox, mini PC) HDMI/signal handling is inconsistent If you just want a large, affordable TV for watching films and TV, it’s fine. If you’re planning to use it with consoles or PCs, be aware it may not be as reliable as expected. *Edit. After trying every conceivable tweak and twiddle, I gave up with this TV set. It couldn't even retain the settings once they've being changed and every session whether it be TV viewing or gaming turned into a troubleshooting scenario. I put it back in the box that's it back for a refund.

Mostly excellent but with some weaknesses.
This is a Fire TV, as stated, with the Freely app built in, which can be accessed independently of the Fire TV menus via dedicated buttons on the remote. The TV remembers were it was at last shut down and restarts in the same place, so avoiding the need to reload Freely every time. Pressing the home button does take you to the Fire TV menu which is nice and useful for those who prefer finding content that way. The TV is mostly very good with decent images and good sound, both of which can be tweaked extensively in the settings to suit your own tastes and within its hardware parameters, which I found necessary for the preset start-up pictures. The picture quality varies depending on the source of the images and the type of images being displayed. HD images and above are mostly excellent, while SD broadcasts are a mixed bag with those from Freely streaming much better than those from the built in aerial tuner, which aren't so good by often looking a little fuzzy. SD aerial inputs from external sources can look better depending on the device being used. Freeview isn't built-in to the set, but is replaced by Freely which currently doesn't have all the freeview channels. Freely reorganises some of freeview's channel numbers which you have to get used to. The HD broadcasts from the aerial, which are splendid, are allotted to the lowest channel numbers and don't need the internet to work, unlike the Freely SD broadcasts that immediately follow them. The SD broadcasts from the aerial are allotted to the higher channel numbers - from around 150 on, and on my 55 inch screen, don't look as good as the duplicated ones from freely streaming (at the lower channel numbers) which arrive at the set slightly behind the aerial's ones. These live freely streaming channels along with the on-screen TV guide and catchup TV won't work without a decent Internet connection, but do work with just WiFi, without an aerial, which makes channel surfing live-streaming broadcasts much easier than with freeview play and separate apps. The sound from the internal speakers is fairly good and quite acceptable for general viewing with the option to make lots of adjustments in settings. Connecting to an external speaker via Bluetooth caused lip-syncing issues, as often happens with many TVs, but here in the settings the sound or picture is delayable, bringing dialogue back in sync, which I was surprised to see on a budget TV. The remote control is nice to hold and easy to use with with good in-hand feedback from button presses. There is a slight response delay from the TV at times which is something you can get used to. You would have to place it side by side with higher spec/priced TVs to be fully aware of it's HD/UHD picture and sound shortcomings. But as a standalone offering, it's hard to fault. As none of the TVs weakneses are overly distracting or irritating, I think it represents really good value for money at its current price point and is certainly a tv that you could easily live with.
