Excellent printer for small business use
The Canon MF284dw is an excellent all-in-one printer for home or small office use. I've been using it for a few weeks now and have been consistently impressed by its fast print speed, sharp text quality, and reliable wireless connectivity. Setup was straightforward, and the touchscreen interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. The duplex printing and scanning features save time and paper, which is a big plus. It's also relatively quiet during operation. My only minor complaint is that it's a bit bulky, but the performance more than makes up for the size. Overall, it's a solid investment for anyone needing a dependable, high-quality monochrome laser printer.

Easy to set up. Works on Chromebook without Play Store!
I had to replace my 15+ yo Canon MFP. I chose this printer because it supports ethernet and Chromebook. It was very easy to set up. After going through the menu on the printer to get it on the network, it showed a URL to go to from your devices. I selected the printer model, and it detected the printer and the operating system and installed the necessary drivers. This worked flawlessly on Windows 10 and 11. What surprised me was, on my Chromebook, it said I needed to install an app from the Play Store, which I don't have enabled (my preference). There was also a link on how to print from Chromebooks, which was just to print, and selecting the printer. And it worked! I saved the printer and set it as the default. It only takes a few seconds to start printing, and the quality is as expected. Some inside plastic parts feel a bit flimsy, but this is not a commercial printer. I like the paper cassette - it's an actual drawer that you open to load the paper into (my old printer was not like this). I have not tried scanning or printing from a phone.

What's beyond "abysmal"?
Since 2008, I have had a trusty, problem-free Canon MF4150. This is the heir-apparent, and a logical choice when upgrading my laptop and scanner-copier-printer MultiFunction device. After hours upon hours of trouble-shooting, and being unsuccessful in installing the scanner portion (the heaviest duty portion for me) of the software, this MF284dw made a U-turn back to Amazon. Amazon would not do an exchange, only a refund. I believe the 284 I received was faulty, with a glitch in the circuitry between the MF's USB-B port (port worked fine for local *printing*) and the scan hardware. In Windows' Device Manager, the 284 did not show up on either of two laptops (Win 10 on one, Win 11 on the other) when directly connected via USB-A to USB-B (working cables x 2 as proved by printing). The scan did work wireless, but with about a 20- to 30-sec lag for each page, totally unworkable for me. Because Amazon would not do an exchange, I ordered a competitor product through Sam's for exactly the same price to the penny. Oh My Fair Godmother (as they say in Disenchanted, another word that describes my 284 experience), what a difference. Installation for that was almost as simple as download the software and press one-button for complete WiFi installation. Scanning so fast it's like the old "Lucy" clip where she can't keep up trying to get the pies off the conveyor belt. This new machine connects via 5G. The 284 only has the ability to connect at 2.4G. The new one has a separate feeder for odd sizes in addition to the paper drawer, the more traditional setup. For the same $$, the other (new) one is much superior. Am so glad I ended up with the new one, hopefully for the next 15-20 years.

A dependable, efficient black-and-white workhorse
The Canon imageCLASS MF284dw is a fast, reliable monochrome laser all-in-one for small offices and home setups. It prints up to 35 ppm, produces crisp text, and supports duplex printing to save paper. A 250-sheet tray, 35-sheet ADF, and wireless, Ethernet, and USB connectivity make it versatile. Mobile printing is supported via AirPrint, Mopria, and the Canon PRINT app. Pros: - Quick first print (~5 seconds) - Compact design with solid build - Cost-efficient high-yield toner - Easy operation with a clear LCD Cons: - No manual feed for envelopes - Basic, non-touch display - Occasional wireless setup quirks Bottom line: A dependable, efficient black-and-white workhorse ideal for everyday business printing and scanning.

Excellent Laser printer for the price.
I got this cannon printer for under 190 dollars. I can scan, copy, and print. Print quality is great and it is fast. Very easy to set up. We used it i our office of 10 employees, connected through a wired LAN network. It can scan to the specific user folder.

Problem at first, but replacememnt is great.
I bought this printer while on a business trip to Chicago, IL. Had a little trouble hooking it up to my Mac, but I finally figured it out. Fast forward 6 months, and it started shutting down whenever I tried to use the sheet feeder. I called Canon warranty support, and after 30 minutes of describing the problem, the tech sent me a brand-new printer, not a refurbished one. I am very happy with this printer, and its functions.

Great! Easy set up! iPhone and Samsung print works!
My husband tried to use his Mac for the set up, haha! Following the included instructions he put the disc in and it doesn't recog the AOS, he doesn't use his Mac anyways to print, he uses his iphone. He thought I needed the disc for my Dell per instructions... nope, I don't have a disc on my Dell (The instructions told my husband NOT to plug in direct to computer.) The next day I took over! π After turning the printer on, I followed the electronic instruction on small digital screen on the printer (didn't even pull out the included instructions or disc.). Set up the time zone and wifi. Plugged my Dell directly into the printer, haha! π©βπ» Went to add printer and it already recognized the printer, did a quick test paper. The printer said there was no paper even though there was. I looked on the screen and it wanted me to pick the type of paper. I hit the down button 2 times... BINGO! ππPrinted. Pulled up a test page from a pdf on my computer to check it again. Printed just fine. Then pulled up a pdf on my Samsung cellphone selected print, this took me to Canon app download. Downloaded it. Went back to pdf to print! Printed great! My whole experience took maybe 8 mins. Asked my husband to try his iphone... he pulled up a pdf, hit print, and it printed! He didn't have to download anything! He has been printing all morning... π€. This is one set up that the instructions make it way harder than it really is. π€―

Not authorized for sale in USA - tech support nulled. Wireless doesn't work. Wired in only.
Hi. The printer came with the ink already installed, my handyman had installed two same models, and said the ink cartridge was not already installed in those. He didn't understand why the wireless wouldn't connect and I plugged it in. He spent far too much time trying to figure it out and we thought maybe it needs to be registered to get access to a different download (like hp). Well, I registered it the next day and it said the identifying numbers were not through an authorized US dealer and disqualifies it from technical support from Canon. So, no technical support, no way to get a download or trouble-shooting to help get it wireless. Since it took my handyman the extra time, and as a problem solver he couldn't pull himself away, I now have a wired in printer. It is working, though not through the normal Canon software, but since I have it now, it looks to be a good printer for the price, and I already had put the box into recycling. So, I am keeping it out of convenience and expense for the installation. ( saved me the trouble of being aggravated at what should have been a straigt forward simple install. I should have at least gotten an Open Box discount or sold as a returned item, obviously the toner cartridge hadn't pre-installed itself. But I didn't want to print on it and then return it, and needed some printing done ( ie. decision to recycle the box). The Canon store at Amazon should have a disclaimer that the unit they sent is not an authorized model for the US, as it was the same price as new elsewhere, no discounts, and if I didn't need to print some pages, I would have spent money on install and returned it as well. The printer is good, not feeding from the top for copies, and can't call Canon for help. The printer itself prints great, but I got the same printer as my daughter and family, so if we need to troubleshoot we can help each other. And now I have the same printer, that is working off different software, so that idea is out the window. Again, if I hadn't needed to print some pages, I would have felt obligated to return it, as the seller is dishonest in sending out to the US, not authorized to sell in the US products, that don't work with the normal setup. But I got a working printer when I needed it, thanks to Amazon speedy delivery, however, not being tech savvy, considering how many issues my handyman had to face for what should have been a 5-10 minute install, I would say, everyone recommended this Canon printer, but please buy it new elsewhere, from an authorized store, so you can get full functionality, an easier set-up, as well as the principle of it all. I would have returned it on principle, had I not needed to print some pages and had my handyman not taken so much time with it. Recommend: don't buy from this Amazon store if you are ordering from the US.
