Children assemble a miniature four-cycle internal combustion petrol engine piece by piece, connect the cables to the battery pack, and watch the pistons pump, the fan spin, the belts rotate, and the exhaust valves open and close. The moment the engine starts running is the moment a child understands what mechanical engineering actually means. That reaction alone is worth it! - TRANSPARENT DESIGN SO CHILDREN CAN SEE EVERY MOVING PART: The engine casing is open and transparent, giving a clear view of every component in action. Pistons rise and fall. Belts wrap around pulleys. The crankshaft turns. Exhaust valves click open and shut. Children do not just build the engine. They watch it work and understand why each part exists. It turns an abstract textbook concept into something they can see with their own eyes and touch with their own hands. - EVERY TOOL AND PART INCLUDED IN THE BOX: The kit contains all parts, screws, cables, and assembly tools. No additional purchases, no trips to the hardware shop, no searching for a specific screwdriver. Clear step-by-step instructions guide the build from the first component to the final cable connection. Designed for children aged 8 and up to complete with minimal adult assistance. - TEACHES CRANKS, PULLEYS, PISTONS, CYLINDERS, AND BELT DRIVES: Every component in the kit performs a real engineering function. Children learn about internal combustion cycles, rotational motion, energy transfer, and mechanical linkages by physically building and connecting the parts. The hands-on construction develops fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, patience, and logical sequencing alongside the engineering knowledge. - THE STEM GIFT THAT LOOKS IMPRESSIVE LONG AFTER THE BUILD IS DONE: Once assembled, the engine is a display piece. It sits on a desk or shelf and runs at the push of a button. Show it to grandparents, bring it to show-and-tell, or just watch it fire up on a rainy afternoon. A birthday, Christmas, or school holiday gift for boys and girls who love building things, understanding how machines work, and the satisfaction of completing something real. - HANDS-ON ENGINEERING FOR CHILDREN AGED 8 AND UP: A STEM kit built for boys and girls who take things apart, ask how things work, and build with their hands. No prior engineering knowledge needed. The step-by-step instructions assume a complete beginner and guide them through every stage of the build process. - PARENT-CHILD BUILD PROJECT FOR A WEEKEND AFTERNOON: The assembly is engaging enough for adults to enjoy alongside their child. A collaborative weekend project that delivers quality time together and a finished product both parties will be proud of. The build takes a few hours depending on the child age and experience. - BATTERY POWERED WITH WORKING MOTOR: The completed engine runs on the included battery pack distributor. Connect the cables and press the switch to see every component move. Batteries are not included. The motor drives all pistons, fans, belts, and valves simultaneously for a complete engine demonstration. - SUPPORTS SCIENCE CURRICULUM TOPICS: The kit covers mechanical engineering, energy transfer, materials, and forces. Teachers and parents can use it as a practical demonstration of how combustion engines work. A useful resource for home education, after-school STEM clubs, and science fair projects. - Discovery STEM COLLECTION: Part of the Discovery range of educational science and engineering toys. Each kit in the collection is designed to make a different branch of STEM exciting through hands-on projects, real results, and the kind of learning that sticks because children do it themselves. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0D49YPM98 | | Age Range Description | Kid | | Best Sellers Rank | 32,554 in Toys & Games ( See Top 100 in Toys & Games ) 330 in Educational Science Kits | | Brand Name | DISCOVERY #MINDBLOWN | | Country Of Origin | China | | Customer Reviews | 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars (69) | | Educational Objective | Creative Thinking, Motor Skills, Problem Solving Skills, STEM | | Included Components | Model Engine Kits | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Indoor | | Is Assembly Required | No | | Item Dimensions | 38.1 x 9 x 31 centimetres | | Item Highlight | Model Engine Kit, Build A Working 4-Cycle Engine, Visible Pistons & Valves, STEM Engineering | | Manufacturer | Discovery Mindblown | | Manufacturer Part Number | 1423000781 | | Manufacturer Warranty Description | No warranty applicable | | Manufacturer recommended age | 8 years and up | | Material Type | Plastic | | Model Name | Mindblown | | Model Number | 1423000781 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Number of Players | 1 | | Operation Mode | manual | | Set Name | Discovery DIY Model Engine Kit for Kids, Ages 8+ | | Size | medium | | Special Features | Battery Operated, Interactive Cables, STEM Learning Focus | | Target Audience | Children, Kids, Kindergarten Students | | Theme | Vehicle | | Toy Building Block Type | Magnetic Toy Building Block | | Unit Count | 1.0 count | ## Product Details - **Age range (description):** Kid - **Brand:** DISCOVERY #MINDBLOWN - **Educational objective:** Creative Thinking, Motor Skills, Problem Solving Skills, STEM - **Item dimensions L x W x H:** 38.1 x 9 x 31 centimetres - **Manufacturer Minimum Age (MONTHS):** 96.0 - **Material:** Plastic - **Model name:** Mindblown - **Size:** medium - **Special feature:** Battery Operated, Interactive Cables, STEM Learning Focus - **Theme:** Vehicle ## Images ![Discovery DIY Model Engine Kit for Kids, Ages 8+ - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81awuslqdbL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: What age is this toy recommended for?** A: This toy is recommended for ages 8+. **Q: Does this toy need batteries?** A: Yes, it requires 2 AA batteries (not included). **Q: How big is the engine?** A: 14.6 x 24.9 x 24.7cm **Q: How many pieces are there in the set?** A: The full set contains 104 pieces. **Q: Does this come with all necessary tools to complete the model?** A: Does this come with all necessary tools to complete the model? ## Frequently Bought Together - discovery mindblown - Model Engine Kits - Model Science Kit - Build Your Own - Car Engine Toy - Engine - Electronics Kit - STEM Toys - Building Toy Set for Kids - Discovery Mindblown - Toy DIY Bionic Hand - Build Your Own Robot Hand, Construction Set, Robotics Kit for Kids and Teens - Science Set for Kids - 87 Pcs DIY Hydraulic Cyborg Kit --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.mx/products/667125966-discovery-diy-model-engine-kit-for-kids-ages-8](https://www.desertcart.mx/products/667125966-discovery-diy-model-engine-kit-for-kids-ages-8) --- *Product available on Desertcart Mexico* *Store origin: MX* *Last updated: 2026-10-20*
