I added this Toshiba X300 Pro 20 TB to my desktop PC to store my media library. Installation was a breeze. Hooked up the cables, started up Windows, created and formatted a new volume with Disk Management - done. At the moment I have about 14 TB of misc audio and video files on it. I mostly just read from it, but I do have some ongoing projects on it as well. Read/Write speeds are quite good, I reckon the 7200 RPM and 512 MB cache help with that. I've only had the drive for a few weeks, so I can't attest to its reliability. If something should happen, I'll update this review.

This high quality reliable drive is just what a photographer needs to gather, sort and archive years of photos and videos on one drive. Toshiba makes a great product at a competitive price.

I have only had this drive for a week. So, I cannot comment yet on durability. I bought a new Dell XPS8960 recently. They did not have an option for including a large hard drive. So, I bought this 20 terabyte drive. I installed this drive in about 15 minutes. When I turned my computer on after installing it, it found the drive. It was simple to format. I have installed lots of hard drives over the past 30 years, but this was the easiest. I had a little over 18 terabytes of usable storage space in one partition. Windows now makes it easy to have large partitions. I wanted to be able to store large numbers of photographs on one drive.

As time goes on files get larger. I started computing life on a early model IBM with a blazing 10mb hard drive when most computers had 2 - 360KB drives. Yeah I'm old. Fast forward 35 years later and hard drives have surpassed 20 TB. This 18TB drive will house my personal and work files. I do alot of movie editing and it takes alot of space. The drive itself is fast enough. The only complaint is it is a little chatty. Not distracting per se but you notice it. For the price I paid it's perfect for my needs.

Easy to install, quiet, lightning fast. Worth the $$.

For physical platter-style hard drives, quality levels have gone down! But not for the Toshiba X300 Pro. Before I landed on this drive, I tried: • 20 TB Seagate Exos - dead on arrival • 10 TB Western Digital Black - would crash during format no matter what, even in differing OS's! • 6 TB Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC310 - awesome enterprise drive but came USED and was twice as loud as the Toshiba. I used this drive to store 12 TB of data from my RAID 5 video content before building a new RAID 5 and then transferred all the data once complete. So it's first use was dealing with 24 TB of data! And the read/write performance is surprising: I'm getting upwards of 280 MB/s, I'm very surprised... and happy!

12TB drive failed after 24 months. Was used as a data drive on my system (OS on separate disk). The drive will stop showing up in device manager and will cause Windows to keep trying to reconnect. While Windows is trying to reconnect, file explorer will not respond, causing Windows to soft lock. You cannot shutdown or restart Windows while its trying to reconnect. After hard power cycle, drive will re-appear for maybe a an hour or two then be lost. I cannot warranty repair the drive as Toshiba shows the serial number as an OEM drive and to contact the OEM. Amazon has no option for warranty repair.. So I have to purchase a new drive. Do not purchase these drives from Amazon, you will not get a warranty.

Very satisfied with this replacement main drive. It is noisy with my desktop at eye level. But not enough to be a problem. It is very fast with loading large files. Strange though there were not any locking screws supplied so if this an additional drive you may need 4 locking screws unless you already have a set.

I spent close to 600 SGD on this device. Firstly, the delivery was way delayed beyond my wildest estimate i.e. arrived after 2 months from the order placed on amazon.sg. On the very first attempt to connect with my laptop, it did not detect the HDD. I tried 3 laptops (2 of them Windows and 1 Mac). Same result. The drive whirls for a fee mins on connecting, then goes silent. terrible product. I got cheated by a defective product from a reputed manufacturer like Toshiba.

Finally got it after a 7 weeks delay… Installed it & it work flawlessly. No loud noises. Fast 7200 RPM speed. Smooth operation. Using it for my Plex server storage and no problems so far. Checked Toshiba website and confirmed that the 5 yrs warranty is valid! Good buy despite delivery issues.
