The XOSS Heart Rate Monitor paired quickly with the fitness app I use. The readings match my smart watch exactly but the XOSS reacts much quicker to changes in my heart rate. Also, the free XOSS app that comes with the monitor is great for recording my outdoor cycling rides. It tracks speed, distance, time, elevation as well as heart rate and several other metrics.

This is my second one. Utterly reliable and long battery life. Pairs with everything I own (Garmin cycle computer & watch, XOSS cycle computer, Wahoo cycle computer, Android tablet and phone, and Windows PC.) Easily adjustable and accurate. Bought first one for great value. Bought second one because it's a great product.

I used a scalpel to lever the circular battery cover open after turning it counterclockwise about 10 degrees. That works well enough but it is very easy to damage the seal. It might be better to wipe the surface with alcohol and use double stick foam tape to pull the cover off.
