I bow hunt, and when I first started, I would miss my long shots—50 yards and beyond—and the arrows would end up buried a couple of inches underground. At $12–$15 per arrow, losing them adds up fast. After losing around 20 of them, I finally bought this metal detector. Best decision I made. I found every single arrow I’d lost, plus several my friends had lost too—easily about $300 recovered on the very first day. I’ve had this detector since 2012 and still use it regularly. I’ve never had a situation where I couldn’t recover something—whether it was lost, buried, or dropped. I’ve lent it out to others, and they’ve had the same success. Today, I’m loaning it to someone to help find a lost wedding ring, which inspired me to write this review. It might be old and a little beat up at this point, but it still works like a champ and gets the job done every time.

This detector gives my minelab equinox a run for its money. Sure it doesn't go as deep, or provide a display telling you what you might be looking at. But it more than makes up for it in ease of use, and ease of learning. My friend took this thing out and found coins all over the place, and he learned quick enough to identify targets by the tone. Frequently he would be digging coins at a rate much faster than me. In fairness, I"m still learning the minelab, but this little detector is absolutely amazing. And its an excellent learning machine, PLUS it detects gold like a hound dog finds raccoons. I wouldn't buy any other machine for a beginner to learn on. It finds things, and that's what it's all about. Plus its lite weight and simplicity makes it a lot of fun to use. Get one, the price is so low you will not find another detector that can do what this does for anywhere near the money. I speak from years of experience detecting with many brands. It's not a toy, it's capable of finding real gold, and real coins. If you're new to detecting get this one and you will never be sorry when you upgrade. Or just keep it for the kids or the beach or park.. Side note: We were detecting a yard where a family of 11 kids lived and played and they lost money all over the place. The ground is terrible with rocks and trash too. Hard to dig, but it still delivered the goods and lots of fun. ...

It works. Everyone likes the feel of a premium item, the rigidity, weight. It allows you to both trust and love a product. This product works, but has neither of those qualities. When I first opened this product, I thought "oh, yeah this is junk"; however, considering the prices that metal detectors can reach, this seems somewhat fair. I am more of an amateur when it comes to metal detectors, so the only commentary I can honestly put out there is that this is an cheap, effective, and easy to use product, but not very durable.

This was delivered to me less than an hour ago. I bought it because I lost a small silver band in my back lawn while I shook my hands to get some water off. I couldn't find the ring no matter how much I tried, and believe me I tried. I decided to buy this in the hopes it would help me locate the ring. The detector cost just about as much as the ring, but the sentiment of the ring was priceless. I put the detector together using the simple assembly directions and popped in two batteries that I had purchased the day before. I was outside for about 15 minutes and then "Bamb!", I found it! The detector's needle and buzzer went crazy when I waved it over the ring. I was thrilled to say the least. I know this is an inexpensive little detector, and I won't find the treasure of Oak Island with it, but it has already paid for itself by helping me find my precious ring. I highly recommend this for small metal detecting jobs.

I purchased this metal detector for myself and my BF. We've both never metal detected before as a hobby, but were interested in trying it out. We saw this Bounty Hunter "Gold Digger" model on Amazon for a fair price, and figured why not give it a go! Well, the unit is very user freindly! It's very easy to put together. It should take only about 10 minutes following the directions that come with the item. It simply operates using two 9-volt batteries. If this is a gift, don't forget the batteries...or the whole excitement factor just went out the window,lol. Anyway, we've since taken it out into the wooods a maybe a handful of times so far, and for all intensive purposes..it does an ok job. We found a few coins, some rusty nails and such, and it pretty much does what it was built to do. As we did more research, however, we've since discovered that if this is going to be a new hobby for someone...A LOT of time and energy can be saved by moving up to the next price point ($200 or so). What I mean is some of the units in that higher price point have a little basic monitor on the front that can tell you what it is you've found...before you spend 15-30 minutes DIGGING and...DIGGING, just to come up with nasty rusted out tin can that is useless! Take my word for it, this "Gold Digger" model is...just ok for a beginner. Maybe great for a kid with lots of endless energy to burn digging a hundred holes a day every weekend. But, if it's for you, or an adult friend who is taking up Detectoring as a new and exciting hobby...pop for the higher end unit and you'll (he,she,mom,dad,pal) will have a much better time knowing that you're at least digging or sifting through loose sand for say a valuable coin...instead of some junk that someone should have put in a trash can 50 years ago! Simplicity of use and good dectecting depth for a budget detector. The inclusion of headphones in the package is a plus. Shame the 2 x 9Volt batteries are NOT included; but this is stated in the description information. Fun to use.

Easy to use and very light in weight, I have found it very good and finds metal objects very precise. For the price its a very good detector.

Found a 14k gold ring on my second day out with it. Sold the ring for well over $200! I would say this is a must buy for a beginner -- it's entry level for sure, but definitely worth it. It isn't great in very wet salt water and the discrimination is not great. Won't find a ring or coin more than a couple inches deep, but I did find some cans over a foot down. The headset is cheap, but works really well and is very comfortable. All-in-all a perfect detector for someone trying out the hobby and not looking to spend a fortune.
