I was impressed with the build quality. Expecting disappointment, I immediately went to the main water shut off valve in my basement to check if the device would fit. I was overjoyed to see that it was going to be a perfect fit! It was a very easy install, taking no more than 15 minutes. Now the real test- would the thing actually work? I’m pleased to say that it worked perfectly, completely closing and then opening the valve. Then I tested automatic function by placing one of my Aqara water sensors in a dish of water. Almost instantaneously the device began closing the water valve. In less than 15 seconds my main water valve was completely closed. Time will tell about battery life. But for now I am very pleased. Review: Oh, so close to a full 5 star. - I replaced a competing product with this. It works well and exposes my valves to HomeKit. The mounting point would be my pain point for some users. You can get almost perfect results with some determination. I deducted 1 star because if someone has little plumbing experience it may not be as easy to understand how to help this succeed. Someone used to working on plumbing fixtures will be able to adjust as needed. I admit it took me a little longer to get this mounted than I expected. That was mainly due to the size of the valve I used and needing to adjust. Am I happy? Yes. I’ve bought two others. They automate opening and closing of water drains for my huskies. Will I buy again? Yes. I’ve got one more to install before summer. Bringing my total to four. Just take your time. Note: This is really strong. Don’t think you can hold it and test or not tighten it down to test. It needs to be firmly secured and you’ll notice a huge difference. Keep fingers away from the control arm area. It could be highly unforgiving if fingers were in the way. For that reason I would only recommended this for homes without small kids. If kids are in the home I would recommend one of the fully enclosed devices mounted directly to a ball valve. For that you’ll want to search elsewhere. That’s unless they have another product I’m not aware of If I could I would give it an additional half star for HomeKit alone. It gives me tremendous peace of mind about the potential of leaks given my aging Poly-B plumbing. I have 6 sensors strategically placed throughout the home. The sensors can be named so you know exactly which sensor is affected. In my tests it works flawlessly. A loud alarm goes off on the base hub module. The app also notifies with an alarm, and the valve reacts within seconds to shut off the main water. I was concerned that if a flood happened due to a storm situation I might have a power outage, so I connected the wifi router and base unit to a UPS battery backup, allowing the wifi to continue to work even if there’s a power outage. I no longer worry about my townhouse having a leak that would make me liable for damages.
