Kept my garden alive on vacation
This work horse of a sprinkler gets the job done. I left on vacation in July during heat warnings and nothing died. I was concerned it would not be heavy duty enough to keep from falling over in a storm but it has done great. Right out of the box the legs easily telescoped for set up. I do wish it could go a little higher as it comes to my upper leg and I am 5' 2" with short legs lol. The distance it covers is incredible as I have a huge garden with lots of raised beds and I also needed to get my in ground potato patch. It can spin 360 degrees, but the water distribution is different than when you are using the easy metal clips to adjust the direction. It is limited ever so slightly by the size of the clips and it could be my user error that's messing that up maybe not the design. Adjustability is important in the garden. This may be more designed for a lawn to cover alot of territory, but it worked well and my plants survived. You cannot tell there is any plastic material because it is so sturdy. I had my eye on one of these for a long time and finally decided to invest in a more heavy duty sprinkler like this and that is well worth the money.

Designed for dependability, impact heads have an uninterrupted water flow that is clog-resistant, even when used with dirty or reclaimed water from ponds and canals. Attached to an adjustable tripod, this sprinkler sprays up to a 90-foot diameter. Easily adjust the coverage from a partial section to a full circle. Features a deflector shield for distance adjustment and an anti-backsplash arm to aid in spray pattern and area coverage. A simple twist of the diffuser screw breaks up the water stream, creating larger or smaller water droplets. The tripod base adjusts from 22 to 48 inches in height and retracts to a small size for easy storage. The base connects easily to a 3/4-inch standard garden hose by a gooseneck attachment. The all-metal construction means it will hold up against the typical wear and tear that most impact sprinklers experience, giving you years of dependable use.

A SPRINKLER FOR THE SERIOUS GARDENER
ORBIT LAWN WATERING IMPACT SPRINKLER ON TRIPOD BASE Dictated to me by my husband, the garden guy ---- Our summers have been hot, humid, and DRY. Every year they seem to get drier. Last fall we had a huge evergreen removed from our back yard which left an area of dirt, sand, pine needles, and an absence of lawn. Knowing we were probably in for a dry summer again we needed a sprinkler that would cover a large area of our 60x100 foot yard. We also have many gardens and trees that need a drink too. An elevated sprinkler seemed to be the answer in that it covers our entire yard without having to constantly go out and move the sprinkler from one area to another. The tripod is made very well and is easy to adjust to different heights. The hose connection is sturdy and durable. The sprinkler head is one of high quality and is made of brass. The adjustment clips to water a specific area are somewhat difficult to use because of their design. I have found much cheaper plastic sprinkler heads much easier to adjust. However, this slight problem with the adjustment clips seems to be the only negative feature. Due to the heavy and fine quality construction, this sprinkler should last a number of years. Believe me, this sprinkler gets a daily work out in our back yard! And guess what?!!! We have a green and lovely lawn in spite of how our yard started out in the spring and in spite of the drought and heat Mother Nature has thrown our way in northwest Ohio for the summer of 2012. Thank you. Pam and Tom -- The Garden Guy

Works great
I wanted to replace my traditional "Fan style" sprinkler. You know, the one where the water goes up in a fan pattern and goes back and forth. My old one wasn't spraying all of my yard and I was constantly having to move it around to cover everywhere. This unit has definitely done the job. It covers my yard very well and is very sturdy. The legs are adjustable so you can adjust it to different heights if you want to. My only complaint isn't so much about this unit, but more so about impact sprinklers in general. They're a lot more difficult to get the spray and coverage just right. You have to adjust the height, there's a pin the water hits to adjust the spray pattern itself, there's a lever you can move to control how high in the air the spray goes, there are clips you can move to adjust how far back and forth the sprinkler goes, and a level to flip if you just want it to spray 360 degrees rather than a set area. All of this is actually really good to have since you have a lot of customization. It just takes a while to setup right if you need it to spray a certain way. I watched a video Orbit posted on YouTube to see what everything does and how to adjust things. The directions that came with the sprinkler are almost useless if you're new to these types of sprinklers. But the video they have online is VERY easy to follow and does an excellent job of explaining how to make adjustments. It saved me a lot of time and I highly suggest people watch it.

Good Tripod/Junk Sprinkler - Go Ahead and Order the Rain Bird Brass Replacment Head (you'll need it in a couple of months...)
UPDATE 7/12/16 I am updating this review after approximately three months of use. I ordered this sprinkler in September 2015, so I only used initially for a month at the time of my original review. The sprinkler head finally stopped working in late June 2016, after less than two additional months of use. My original rating was 4 stars, but I have dropped to 3 Stars based on the short life span. Admittedly, my application is a bit tougher on sprinkler heads than typical users irrigating from a municipal water supply, so I don’t want to be overly harsh with my rating. Orbit now makes a similar tripod sprinkler with a brass head, which at the time of this review is exactly the same price on Amazon as the Zinc model. I would recommend trying the brass model instead of this zinc model, which should more accurately be described as Chinese pot metal. The Orbit adjustable tripod actually works great, so this purchase was not a complete burst. In fact, I highly recommend the following model found on Amazon as a replacement head to use on this tripod - “Rain Bird 25PJDAC Brass Impact Sprinkler, Adjustable 0° to 360° Pattern, 20' - 41' Spray Distance”. The Rain Bird replacement is the highest quality sprinkler I have found in a very long time (no Chinese pot metal here), and it handles dirty source water better than any impact head I have ever tried. Read further for specific details of the Orbit Zinc tripod Sprinkler. FUNCTION – 4.0 Stars The Orbit Impact sprinkler worked fairly well (while it lasted), and the radius is pretty close to the stated specs. I use a well pump to draw irrigation water from a shallow lake behind my house, and I have purchased cheaper impact sprinklers before that would not work at all. This sprinkler cycles much faster than previous impact sprinklers I have used, which probably works better from an irrigation efficiency standpoint, but it makes walking past the sprinkler (while it is spraying the other direction) a difficult feat without getting wet. There is a screw that can be adjusted into the stream to create a coarser spray pattern and limit the spray radius. A small metal plate can be swiveled to limit spray radius as well, but it is much different than the typical top mounted adjustment designs of traditional impact sprinklers. The traditional design (that is adjusted by a knob on top of the head) is simpler to adjust than the side-mounted swivel plate on this model. Note – the adjustment stops on the Rainbird are much easier to adjust, and it is capable of true 360 degree operation (which the Orbit is not). TRIPOD – 4.5 STARS I have some steeper areas on my property, so I thought the Tripod might be useful for set up, but I found that it tips over fairly easily if I don't get it set up just right (on slopes). (I have no problems with it tipping when set up on flatter surfaces). This feature is handy for gardens and landscaping, though, and the legs adjust easily. I also found that the legs need to be extended at least somewhat, or the water hose kinks at the hose connection point. Ultimately, the tripod is the most redeeming feature of this model. I actually purchased another identical Orbit tripod (brass head), just because the tripod ultimately works so well with the (much higher quality) Rain Bird replacement head. DURABILITY – 2.0 STARS Durability is always an issue when using surface water instead of city or well, so I am not that surprised that the head lasted less than a growing season. I should have realized this from the start, because the material is cheap Chinese pot metal. The adjustment springs for the stops are a bit flimsy, and are a little persnickety as you need both hands free to hold the head and squeeze the spring to adjust the stops. It is also tough to adjust the stops during operation without getting a little wet. My old Ace Hardware impact sprinklers are much simpler in terms of just tapping the stops to make a small adjustment (instead of squeezing a spring). While similar in design, the Rain Bird replacement head stops are also much easier to adjust than the Orbit. In fact, everything on the Rain Bird model puts the Orbit to shame, all the way down to the washers on the fitting. THANKS Thanks for reading my review.

Need 2 not 1 or you will not be satisfied, legs break easily.
Amazon F’d my return !!! Broke with in a 1/2 hour due to kept failing over . Tried to follow return instructions to Whole Foods,Lenexa KS. Whole Foods,Lenexa KS REFUSED the return because it would not fit in the box because it was broken! Kohl's can not accept it because AMAZON will not allow return location to be switched. ( Not good for hilly yards if you don’t have a flat spot, so much for adjusting tripod, needs tent steaks. Bought 2 to replace so I can split the water pressure before the return was completed, If the 2 together fall over they will be going back too . Could have bought at my local hardware store and saved the return gas but was busy and didn’t want to go )

Sistema di bloccaggio delle gambe telescopiche fragile
La struttura metallica è robusta. Purtroppo il sistema di bloccaggio delle gambe telescopiche è fragile ed inadeguato. Si sono rotti in breve due dei blocchi.

Works well but legs Bio Degrades
Very happy with the function, ideal for my sloping block. The only thing letting this product down is the constriction materials used for the legs. They are corroding away under the paint (not anodized) after 3 months of use. This makes it problematic then trying to adjust the leg length. This is the last thing I would have expected from a sprinkler.

Great construction at a fantastic price
I purchased this and it's half price compared to one of the major retailers. It's very well made collapsible and I look forward to it irrigating a very large area

Does exactly what I want
Easy to use. Easy to adjust. You may get a bit damp adjusting it while the water is on but not if you stand on the hose for a few seconds. Needed an adapter but found one in the “stuff that might come in handy” drawer in the shed. Mechanical so not much to go wrong. Seems very sturdy. Pleased with this purchase. Worth the money.
