Failed on First Use
I returned a previous purchase of a VHS to VHSC converter cassette that failed right out of the box, when the door that permits insertion of the VHSC cartridge failed to open. I thought maybe a slightly more expensive unit would be more reliable, so I ordered this one. More reliable? Well, the door did open and I inserted the cartridge. Progress! However, when I tried to place the cassette into my VHS player, it wouldn’t enter all the way. It also wouldn’t eject. So, I had a player with a stuck cassette and no way to remove it short of opening the player case. Which I did. Fortunately, that’s a simple procedure. With the case open, I could see that the cassette had entered the slot at an angle and was jammed. I could manipulate the cassette so that it was square in the slot and could be ejected. With the case open, I re-inserted the cassette and observed it enter at an angle, jamming again as it had the first time. I squared the cassette, it entered fully, and I replaced the case cover. I pressed “Play”, and nothing. Couldn’t hear the sound of the tape rolling. I ejected the cassette and placed a VHS tape cassette into the player, which played fine. Time to return the converter cassette, after removing the VHSC cartridge. Nope. The cartridge door wouldn’t open. I couldn’t find a way to open the cartridge door without risking breakage, so now the cassette converter and my cartridge are on their way to Amazon Return Land. This converter and the one I previously purchased appear to be identical, complete with the same grammatical errors in the instruction sheet. If, despite now knowing of my experience, you wish to proceed with a purchase, you’d be well-advised to consider that you may have to perform surgery on your player case and lose your cartridge as well. At least returns to Amazon are simple.
