Longer Life than ANY of my previous DVD Recorders
I was VERY happy with this refurbished DVD Recorder because it lasted longer than any of my previous DVD recorders - and ALL of those were purchased new from stores like Walmart and Sam's Club. Of course, it was not a pretty as a brand new player, but what mattered was that it worked... and continued to work far longer than I expected due to previous systems. On average, a DVD Recorder last me about 17 months. This system managed to last for over 4 years before it was worn out from regular usage - which for my family is a lot since all of us have busy work and school schedules. I highly recommend this seller for refurbished DVD Recorders. Even though the recording feature is now unreliable due to heavy usage, the player still works great... so I am purchasing a new one and keeping the old system as a player back-up (just in case we need it in the future).

Reliable, good value, few caveats are bearable.
This is the second one of these I bought (paid a little over $55. for the first one purchased new via Walmart, which was a great deal). Pros: this thing just works and works and is a good value for the modest price: I've burned MANY DVDs (a couple hundred by now) with it, using it to clear space on my Tivo DVR's hard drive and make transfers from old VHS tapes... I liked it so much, I paid more for another/used one than I did for the first new one, simply because I trusted it to work well and it's getting really difficult to find a low-price stand-alone video DVD burner; small footprint; S-video input/output which I prefer for older/analog/standard-def connections. Cons: the GUI/menus look a bit dated and aren't exactly well laid-out, though you get used to them; the remote is fairl UN-ergonomic, but again, you get used to it.

Not One Of My Wiser Purchases
I bought this unit primarily for recording off of the television (I have cable). The problem: even with the instructions (which I got off the internet) I have not been able to hook it up so that it will record. I have tried every configuration they suggest, and even a couple they did not. It’s a nice unit, but because it is an older model it is not programmed for the higher channels of cable so even if I could get it to record it would not be in HD. I am disappointed because I could have purchased a DVD player for 1/3 what I payed for this

Update:11/26/12!
Great while it worked...but then it just died. No power light, no nothing... just completely dead. It's like something shorted out inside (guessing here) so its just like a plastic box now. A plastic box with a DVD stuck inside. :( I didn't get much use out of it at all... maybe a couple of weeks. When I finally opened it and set it up I loved it. It was a little slow but I was really enjoying it... until it just stopped. I bought a refurb for my sister (before mine fizzled) and as far as I know hers is still working. She's only had it a few weeks. I'll post an update if hers doesn't last through 2009. I don't think you can get these new any longer. UPDATE: 02/25/10 The refurb I bought my sister is still working. UPDATE: 08/02/10 The refurb I bought my sister is STILL working and she uses it often! I just increased stars from two to three for that. Probably pointless at this stage since electronics become antiquated so quickly but there you go. UPDATE: 11/26/12 Wow. My sister is STILL enjoying the one I bought her. Go figure.

This is a great product. It's simple to use
I've bought several of these that are the "progressive scan" model and use them with my Dish TV service instead of using their "hopper" DVR. You can't go wrong with the color-coded connections. I can record anything perfectly, including programs and movies other DVD recorders forbid you to record. Read the owners manual-- that's all you have to do. Maybe that will cut down on some of the whiny ignorant reviews I've seen here? This is a great product. It's simple to use. It produces excellent-quality video with equally good audio. Mine is also a DVD player. Not only can I easily watch my own recordings but can enjoy any non-regional (and any N T S C) DVD on the market. And, just in case anything happens to the one I'm using now, I keep a spare in-the-box in the closet as a back up. I'd rate the MWR10D6 more than 5-stars if that was possible.

Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD recorder
I am an avid Classic Movie buff and have been copying old, classic movies for years. Previously copied movies on VHS video cassettes and now in the process or re-copying to DVD. Predominately copy from TV (Cable) broadcasts, I find this unit's edit functions quite simple to use and allows easy editing of the TV commercials for smooth, continuous playback. I am pretty sure, this unit has been discontinued from Magnavox. Over the years, I have purchased a total of three of these units which all are operating. Bought third unit as a spare. I have received great service from this unit and again, prefer this unit because of the ease or operation of the edit functions. Would recommend this unit to all movie buffs who want to copy movies from their TV broadcasts, especially if they are interested in editing the commercials. Not what the seller claimed
Bought this DVD recorder because it was an exact replica of one I had just lost in a lightning storm. Had been VERY happy with previous recorder and wanted another one just like it. Seller had it listed as very good condition and working great! But when it arrived, after taking a full month to get here, the player was dirty (actually smelled bad) and the unit is very badly scuffed. In short it just looks like its been through the ringer. To top it all off, although it plays DVD's just fine, it does NOT record!! Obviously I know how to use the product since it IS just like my old recorder. I have had a series of emails back and forth with the seller with nothing being resolved and my last email to them going unanswered. Needless to say this product is worthless to me. The seller falsified information regarding the product just to make a buck.
